I finally recieved my 4" exhaust from Extreme Diesel today, and I have one stupid question. Does anyone know why the louvers open side face toward the engine? Is it to quiet the resonance? Has anyone turned them around the other way and does it make a difference? Either way it looks good and I can't wait to get her into the shop and install it.

 

They are like that to make the exhaust quiter. Do yourself a favor and dont even install the muffler. It'll sound better without it. I picked up a 36" piece of 4" pipe and two band clamps for around 20 bucks from a truck shop. I didn't use it though. There was enough pipe in my kit. Now it's just sitting in the garge.

 

what would it sound like with the muffler reversed

 

I have the louvres pointing down stream on both of my trucks and the sound is awesome!........Almost as loud as a straight pipe with none of the raspiness or drone and a much deeper tone..........perfect, IMO

 

Hey whats going on the louvers facing forward will make it the exhaust quiet face them toards the rear a little louder I have them face toards the rear on my trucks love the sound if you do straight pipe save the muffler you might not like it. Thanks for the business

Just kidding. I wanted to be sure which way they face so I get the best performance out of it. The last thing I want is to the packing material in the muffler. Thanks for delivering the goods as promised
I pulled out the pipes and I must say they look in greta shape. I'll be calling on you in the next couple of months about that chip you were talking about.

 

Is there some kind of fiberglass packing in those mufflers?

 

does anyone have a sound clip of a rips or diamond eye system with the louvers forward and another with them toward the rear i want to compair the two sounds and if they are facing toward the rear will the packing come out

 

Who needs mufflers? I love my STACKS!

 

The muffler does have packing in it and the rips and Diamond eye are the same product Diamond eye makes both, the rip is just a rebadge. No the packing won't come out when the louvers are facing the rear, exhaust doe's not enter the mufflers chamber just flows straight through. It will still mellow out a little of the exhaust tone so it won't sound like a straight pipe, it sounds more like a tuned exhaust Hope this helps
