Miss while towing

I just finished a 2600 mile round trip to Vermont last week pulling my 30ft. 5th wheel camper. The EGT's were managable (using the right foot) and plenty of power. The only problem I experienced with the truck was when I pushed the pedal down a little further than normal to play around with it a little, the truck seemed to miss and would "buck" like a gasser miss-firing.

Any ideas?

I'm not sure it's your problem, but you may be starving the VP44 of fuel. What kind of FP do you have when it stutters? I know a couple of higher HP guys that have the "bucking" on the dyno when they hit full power.

Just a thought......

crobtex....fuel pressure was around 7-8psi. You think that might be the problem?

That should be good enough for minimum FP. Under that load, I still wonder if it was sucking all of the fuel out, even with the pressure. I'm sure someone with more knowledge will chime in here before long.

With those big injectors I would say that fuel pressure would be a concern for me. Might concider running a pusher pump to maintain higher fuel pressure. Could be simply a dirty fuel filter as well. I would have said converter slip, but Dave builds some nice stuff, so I doubt it. However, it wouldn't hurt to give him a call just to rule it out. MAP and IAT sensor?

Scan the codes and see if you have P0216.
