Megamouth
I'm trying to decide if I need the Megamouth down pipe or not. I know it can help lower turbo temps. I don't tow a lot but when I do its over the passes in the Pacific NW, about 6500lbs. I'm going w/ the MBRP 4" turbo back exhaust. Advice?
That's pretty much the answer I've universally heard- it's a good product if you're dead set on sticking with the stock turbo... will reduce EGTs better than any other downpipe, eliminating the choke point at the Elbow..
If you want an exhaust brake, you'll have to get a 4" inline model...
and any significant turbo upgrade won't bolt to the Megamouth... and will cool your EGTs more than any mods w/ the stock turbo in place (unless we're talking towing twins
)
if you're going to go with it, I'd suggest drilling the divider on the stock turbo, and maybe enlarging the wastegate opening- little more EGT reduction, and prevent overspeeding the little stocker
I'm still running a stock turbo, too- partially because I have other things I need to do first, partially due to altitude- a big turbo will be laggy.. I LIVE around 6000 Feet ASL, and tow sometimes up to 10,800 Ft ASL (Wolf Creek pass)

Thanks for the inputs. I'm planning on adding an edge or smarty but not going over 350hp max. It'll remain w/the stock turbo until it needs replacement. I'm also adding an S&B air cleaner to help it breathe easier. How do I drill the divider? I've ported/polished gas engine intakes and heads back when so I have some experience in this area.
remove the turbo, remove the exhaust housing from the turbo- and where the wastegate hole is, drill thru it with around a 3/4" bit (metal hole saw) going thru the divider on the other side of the wastegate opening...
here's a thread on it:

it also presents opposing viewpoint... IMHO, if you start having problems holding the boost pressure down, you definately need to do this... and even if you can hold the stock turbo to 32psi or so, it would still drop EGTs on the top end

That's great advice. I looked into the drilling out the divider and think it may be farther than I need to go with my present plans. Most my planned mods are defiitely mild. I'm just trying to squeeze out a little more power but retain the longevity till the wheels fall off! Thanks again.
You could call Banks and check the price for their power elbow and downpipe. The one that came with my original exhaust system made a big difference in spool-up. I know Banks isn't popular but that piece is well made and might be cheaper? IIHO.
