Unhappy A matter of time

I knew it was bound to happen sooner or later I installed the #0 plate the soft TST AFC spring, sent my cousin in colorado a check for $1500.00 for that hi-po cummins head and camshaft, now I am going to need a clutch, it's only about 6 months old and is rated at 375 horses as per the tranny shop It will slip on demand through 4th gear. Iguess I should have put the SOUTHBEND clutch on the top of my list.

I dont know that there real is a "good deal" anywhere. Every place I called was the exact same price wise. I believe they are some what regulated by SB. I'd get a dual disk and be done with it. I have one in my pickup and it's great.

It will be a dual disk, when I get one, that is a must.

get the 1 3/8th inch input also, the dual disk is the only way to go.

Would the dual disk work well towing a 5er on my truck? How about for slow manuevering like backing into a driveway?

The dual disc will be VERY choppy trying to back in your RV. They're either engaged, or disengaged, period.

I'd suggest getting a 2 Wheel Low kit (if they're still available) for your HO 6 spd. if you're going to run a dual disc clutch.
Manuvering RV's in Low range is MUCH easier, especially with the fairly tall reverse gear ratio in the 6 speeds. I've been running a 2 wheel low kit for 3 years now, and LOVE it for ease of manuvering.

Gee, that’s funny, all I ever heard on here was how cerametallic clutches are the ones which are so chattery maneuvering slow and have harsh engagement.... etc etc etc..

the southbend dual disk i have in mine is a 3850 plate load and 10 pucks per clutch is way better backing up than my fe i had before. but i just pop it in 4wd low range and it did everything just fine. the dual disk is smother engagement than the single for me.

Ok, so what is the best clutch for towing and backing up heavy trailers? Sooner or later I will be in for a clutch and would like to select one that will put up with 400 RWHP but not be silly to operate when slow speed manuvering and backing up......all hear is that I should probably stay away from the DD's but a heavy, chatter-prone single disc isn't any good either!

What about Centerforce? are these just highly marketed and not worth anything, like banks, or are they half way decent? I've heard good things about them in race cars and such but never heard of anybody with one in a real truck.

Nope

i had one prior to my stocker.. I was very displeased with it.. Had no holding power, compared to a stock clutch, it would slip with a two horse trailer, and trust me it dont compare to even a southbend single, i have a friend that has a ram with a southbend single and it did better than my old dual disk centerforce..

Id say just invest in the southbend, call peter, and get it over and done with.. save urself the hassle..

The centerforce lasted only 15K on my truck...
