Question making 350-450hp, lots of?????

hello 2nd gen owners, im new to this forum so forgive my incompetance, im am putting a 2nd gen 12v into my 1990 ctd and what to now a few things about fuel pump upgrades and injectors. i looked on some internet sites to find out what upgrades i could do and i was wondering which ones are worth the money and will help me make 350-450rwhp. The head will be o-ringed
1. what injectors, smoke is a good thing
2. 3k rpm gov spring or 4k rpm spring (i will upgrade the vales for the 4k)
3. what fuel plate #
4. delivery valves, yes or no?
5. what must be upgraded on stock turbo to handle all the fuel? im told the stock turbo is an internally wastegated 12cm exhaust housing, not sure what size compressor they have, will my 1st gens 56mm compressor housing work on the 2nd gens turbo? also would my 18cm exhaust housing from my 1st gen work on the 2nd gen, i've heard the 12cm won't handle 350-450hp without getting toasty.
6. what type of head gasket and head studs?

my tranny is an auto 727, but this engine comes with the a518 auto so i might use it since it has overdrive, and yes the tranny will be rebuilt for added hp and tq. does anyone know if the a518 bolt up to my transfercase and tranny mounts? sorry for such a long write, im a sponge so spill out all your diesel knowledge on me thanks any kind of help

2 gen 12V

well thats a great choice, but first of all, u want to look for one that has a 215 pump, or a five speed manual transmission, the 180 pump works just fine as well... I have about 400 rwhp right now with the turbo being a huge limiting factor on my truck, and several other things that i need to do to it before i go haywire on it and add another 100 or so horses.. What steps would i take to get 450 rwhp with minimal money spent? Well here goes

First step would naturally be to add some good gauges to the truck, boost, pyro, and fuel pressure (optional on a 12V)

Next thing would be a free GSK, you can do a search on here, Gunracer1 was the one that came up with it and it works well..

Next thing would be time your injector pump to about 16-16.5 degrees, this is a good overall setting for most people and it isnt hard on your headgasket..

Injectors, 370 injectors work super well for gettin a good kick for little money

Delivery valves, if you have a 215 pump, the 181's will suffice for smoke and power upgrades..

Air intake, you could go with a BHAF (big honkin airfilter) or an AFE intake just to keep things a little cooler

I would also go with ARP studs and a marine 10 over gasket for your setup, i dont think u need to o ring ur head till ur well over 500 rwhp....

Finally and most importantly, ditch that stock fuel plate and go with a 10 plate, a 100 plate, or for all out power at all times, go with a 0 plate....

If u can also spring for it, add a turbo to your setup and im sure ull push the rollers to more than what i have at the moment...

This is how id do it if i could do it all over.....

Hope this helps

Rick

PS please note, that unless ur tranny is slightly built, it aint gonna like u much after these upgrades....

sweet! thanks for the help, the engine is from a 95 dodge so im not sure what type of pump is on it. reason for buying this motor is it is cheap, its from a guy i know, and it only has 65000 original miles on it, it runs and is super clean and its cheaper to buy it and make more hp than if i rebuild my 1st gen motor, also it has the p-pump which is mucho better than the ve pump.

Even an HX35/40 hybrid and big exhaust housing (60mm compressor, 18.5cm exhaust housing) will have a hard time with over 350hp. If I were you I'd go for a bigger single from HTT or Industrial Injection for that power level. Or twins...

And if you're o-ringing the head, you might as well put studs in while you're in there. A quote from Corky Bell's "Maximum Boost" book (a book about turbo systems): "Head bolts are an accountant's decision. Head studs are an engineer's decision"

Ur truck is a 95,

which could be a 175 horse manual or 160 horse auto, not sure on ur trans or pump... Tires and truck legnth (extended cab or reg cab) will have a huge effect on ur hp, Heat as well and trans condition will also affect what u put to the ground..

Look at my sig, i have most of ur BOMBS in a 215 pump truck, i have about 400 rwhp.... with 285 tires, with ur slightly smaller pump id expect about 320-360 rwhp... but im just guesstimating using my truck as a platform....

Thanks!

Rick
