Mach-5's too much for daily driver?

There are some Mach-5's in the classifieds. I was originally looking at getting Mach-4's. The price on these 5's is pretty good. Are these injectors going to be okay on a daily driver? Right now with the DD-3's I can turn the box down and not smoke at all when taking off and just driving in traffic. Am I goign to be able to do the same with a set of 5's? Im on the hunt for 500hp, but I dont want to smoke constanly when just trying to drive around. Any comments? My setup is in my sig. Thanks

yes no problem for daily driving i have the mach 6's and they are reasonably good for the street. the 5's will be good and with any sort of turbo upgrade will clean up nicely!

For Brisk acceleration my 4.8's only haze slightly. I can easily accelrate faster than the traffic 90% of the time with noe more smoke than you would see from a truck with a Stock Intake/Exhaust with an EZ set aggressive. Of course, I do have a low compression motor, ported head, and cam, with a small set of twins, but I do drive aggressive, and the smoek isn't to bad unless I tickle the firewall...

I dyno'd 514/1010 and 516/1022 on our 248c couple weeks back.
With a little Nitrous it did 588/1139...

With a 6 speed you can drive around the smoke of a larger injector. 5's should be no problem, I did 6's for 18 months. Most of the time the drag comp stayed on 5x5 for the 13.683 mile (one-way) commute.

Neil, there are plenty of guys daily driving Mach 6s without twins and drastic stuff.

I'm mulling over the merit of Mach 6s, a MAD ECM and some possible chemical enhancement to see if an HO can make 500hp with no wire tap on a stock VP.

Should get interesting if I went that route. Gee, I wonder of M6s and an ECM will make any smoke??

I would talk to Rip, or one of Don M's dealers. I believe the Mach 5's are the older design and might smoke more than the newer 6's. Not sure.

The newer Mach 4's should be enough (injector wise) to get to 500 hp.....with a set of twins.

Im not sure if you recall the white 99 with a single stack with a flapper from Imlers. He is a buddy of mine (badley) is his screen name. He is running mach 5's everyday with a big single and with the comp on low settings the truck can be driven virtually smoke free, if he chooses to

Jeep, I remember seeing that truck. He dyno'd 450/830. That is 43 more hp than me. I would have thought the Mach-5's would have given more? Is he running a comp?

He is running a comp but Ken told him that his injection pump is on its way out which is why it stalled on the dyno, this may be the reason for the low numbers.

Ahhh, that would explain it! So is he stepping up to a HotRod VP-44? That should help him down some power for sure.

Can I run some Mach-5's, turn my comp down and still drive around without smoke?

With a manual transmission like you have, yes. It takes some time to figure out exactly when the truck spools and you can feed it more fuel, but it's very do-able.

With mach 4's and comp on I find it very do-able to drive around town with very little smoke, but as Joefarmer put it you will figure out where the truck spools and when you can roll on the throttle. As far as mach 5's i wouldn't know what they are like but I really like the mach 4's. A word of warning though your clutch is going to divorce you real soon if you haven't already upgraded

By the way how do you like that short shift kit?

Should I go with 4's or 5's? Hmmmm I can't decide I like the short shift, but I have never driven a truck without one either. I think the previous owner must have put a clutch in this truck, it is holding 407/900 fine and is a little jerky on take offs and quite jerky when backing up.
