M1.6 and Smarty or ???

Would the M 1.6 and a Smarty be a good setup for a high altitude truck. I've followed PaullDaisy's posts and he has EGT's well in check but with just my EZ I can hit 1300+ pulling our trailer ~7k in the rockies. Mods are in my sig and I would sell the EZ to help fund the new bombs. Totally stock intake and exhaust. I've thought about a 4" strait pipe but don't like the drone posts towing, and quiet is better. Intake I could fab up a BHAF if that would help EGT wise. Or do a injector, exhaust combo and keep the EZ or...
I don't tow often, 1 or 2 times a month for the summer only and this is a daily driver and it's HIGH altitude.

Advice?

Boost is ~30psi WOT 3rd gear pulling our trailer and 25 4th if that helps.

I've thought about the Adrenaline but don't really want to tap the wire.

Go for it!

I run Mach 1.75's with a Smarty on any and all levels depending on what I'm doing and EGT's are not really a problem. You will notice in my sig that I changed up from the stock HX35 to a PDR35 but with the stock turbo, EGT's where very driveable.
I have/do tow up to 11,000 lbs I just drive by the pyro when I'm in the hills.

you might want to go to a hx35 the hy in your truck is a little smaller . with my hx35 in the summer the temps can get toasty but, It is very manageable.

but you got to love the power ,F1 mach injectors run cooler with less smoke because there a quality part and design.

Hi 2500Ram, My original setup, before I was bitten by the more power bug, was an Edge EZ, HX 35 turbo, Summit Racing 4 inch SS exhaust, 275 RV injectors and stock air box. I am not running the high altitude you are ( 1000 to 2000 ft. ) but the EGT's were never an issue, even towing up to 13,000 lbs. The setup made 264 rear wheel horsepower and consistently got 19.8 to 19.9 mpg empty. Sometimes I wish I would have left well enough alone, especially when the price of fuel went through the roof. I am surprised at the boost levels you are getting. I hardly made 20 psi in normal towing last weekend, with EGTs never above 1200 driving over Cameron pass (10,200 ft). I stayed in 4th gear, 47-55 MPH just about all the way except at the bottom (winding road) and before the top (winding steep road). You must be driving a lot faster on steep hills than I do.
I am convinced that you will love 1.6 and Smarty especially since you don't tow all the time, and those times you do if you step off of it, your EGTs will be fine. But I would try injectors +EZ first, you may like it like that too. It worked nicely for me but I am quite easy to please, generally

Yup! Need more air for high altitude towing/playing. At least an HX-35. An S300, 62/12 would be worlds better still.
And loose the J-Hook when you get a bigger turbo..... just won't need it.

1.6's are the way for you to go! Only problem with Smarty is it's not adjustable on the fly. Might be better with a box you could adjust as you climb hills, etc. If budget is tight... there are good buys on Edge Comps out there. The Adrenaline from Quadzilla is spectacular, if affordable.
Smarty is great if your firm about not tapping the wire?

Been an excellent combo for me at sea level and with a 6 speed, either towing or just daily driving. Was able to slip the stock clutch (being stupid), but as you have a Goerend, you will be fine As stated, though, more air at your altitude is what you need.

Paul thanks for chiming in but you have the hx vs the hy turbo with your 5 speed. You have not plugged the waste gate yet so even unloaded I can hit 30 WOT, before the j-hook I pegged the guage at ~20psi.

Everyone else thanks for the comments and suggestions.

I'm learning on all this power go fast fun stuff so go easy on me.

My goal is more power, not sled puller or 1/4 mile runs in the 12's. But reliable daily driven power, low smoke and lower EGT's. Home alt is 6000' and we camp anywhere from 10,000 to 12,000+ elevation.

So a stock hx would be a good start better yet a S300, 62/12. I've got to do some shopping and pricing. Will they just bolt on, same oil line etc?

What about my stock exhaust. Keep it or go larger, don't like the drone posts of a strait pipe and my 3 kids and wife definitely won't. Same for intake. Injectors I only want to do once. I was set on rv275's until I read Paul's post on the M1.6's and his low EGT's running the same roads I run. As for box the reason I chose the smarty is the ODB scanner part and the other goodies the smarty offers without tapping the wire, I can do the key trick but "believe" it will give you complete codes unlike the odo window. I'm used to no change on the fly so that's not a big issue.

I'm sure I'm missing something but keep the suggestions coming.

Go with a 4" exhaust and a muffler, this will help lower your EGT's a bit. Most aftermarket ones will bolt right up to the stock downpipe. If you change your turbo, you will need to match the new turbo's down pipe to the exhaust system. I have seen some makers claim a 200* reduction in EGTs. I don't know under what conditions those reductions are claimed at though (IE. what elevation, what the load on the engine was, what, if any HP adders were used).
An intake will help as well. For example, the Scotty II (not available anymore ) would, under certain conditions, reduce EGT's by about 150* if I remember correctly (this was not on stock trucks, but on modified ones).
