lower intercooler boot??

Ok, what is the best deal to replace my lower intercooler boot ? The fender was rubbing it, and now I have a hole the size of a quarter and I am loosing about 8 Lbs of boost which makes it quite toasty ( but it makes one heck of a noise though !!!! )

For my boost level, the stock boot was fine (This one would have been fine execpt for the fender rubbing it), but they are close to $100 from the dealer !!! Thats preposterous. And the high dollar fancy color kits dont excite me...

Anybody know a better way ???

I've seen turbo boots in marine catalogs (West Marine). If you have a boat store near you take your old one in and see if they have anything to match.
It might work, who knows?
Let us know what happens.

I thought I read that youre fabbing up a set of twins?...youll need better boots for them. Piers sells the upgraded single boot for $65 which is better than $100:

Just a thought....

Is your truck out of warranty? I had mine replaced by the dealer, it was rubbing in the same spot.

The Piers boots are great, but you better ask God for a LOT of patience getting them on. Better than cursing him when you can't get it on.

Try the hairspray trick and work fast. The cheap junk like Final Net or something with a ridiculous amount of alcohol works best. Aerosol, not pump.

Of course, if it's that hard to get on, it should STAY on, right?

I got my Peirs boots installed in about 30 minutes and sold my stockers on ebay for $100.Everyone wants the same stuff as a big rig so why not get big rig IC boots??The Piers boots are about 3x thicker than stock.

I'll bring this back up as my boots are driving me CRAZY!, Iv'e almost forgotten what my truck'll do as nearly every time I get on it a boots pops off.

I've tried stock replacements and the Diesel Power Prod. listed above (they are shorter than stock), they both pop off.

Should this really be suck a problem with my turbo?

also are the piers really that difficult to put on? any tips to make them go smoother?

It shouldn't be an issue at all. I'm still running my stock boots and I've run them up to 50psi before with stock clamps.

For the piers boots I've heard putting them in boiling water for a few minutes will really help loosen them up and go on a lot easier.

Well, I forgot about this one !! A belated thanks to all the guys who responded to my post. Right after I posted this message the *&@! hit the fan at the power station and I spent a long hard 2 months there so never got back to anybody....

Anyway, I wound up getting the piers boot and OH MY was that a study in aggravation getting it on. I had the boot in boiling water, but it is just a pain no matter what. The access is just so poor down there, you never seem to get any decent angle to twist and push... I wound up taking the pipe off from the turbo and the boot up at the turbo and then working up from the intercooler back up to the turbo.

I also had to trim the boot a bit, as I found it to be too long. About 1/2" off of the intercooler end of its length was perfect.

LJ, I am sure it has nothing to do with the turbo, or sucking etc... I suspect there is something wrong with your tube. Does it have the rolled lip on it, or is it bent or anything ? You should not be blowing boots off. I was running about 36 to 38 psi for years, and the stock boot was fine, it was only the rubbing on the fender which did it in.
