wow, its been over a year already. I never checked my bearng temp. I now have almost 20k miles on the hub conversion. No problems to report. The best thing is 2lo I back up a slight grade about 300 ft up my driveway with a 50 ft trailer and 2lo is great. Probably 2/3 rds of the miles are towing. I ve also run fast on the hiway empty, with no problems, but I did start to melt some tires. One thing to remeber is that I pull my trailer around the southwest and death valley were it is real real hot.

I also use 4wd about once a month in the sand.

They will be running a special when it is available. Mention DTR for the promotion. I'm on the list! Stuart
Is the kit compatable for my 99? I noticed the kit worked on 00+, but what about 94-99?

The 98 and 99's should have only rear ABS and some 2000's like ours.

I went to the old way of torquing the hub nuts, tighten nuts to seat bearing
spin the wheels, back off to just the slightest free play, tighten 2nd nut.
Only problem, tightening 2nd Nut takes out the free play, took me a few trys until I was satisified,,, Still 1 side runs a little warmer...

And, if you brake before checking for 'warm' , ??? brake or bearing causing temps...

I do like the Hubs, I think it now steers better'.
Before the Hub conversation,( With the 285 tires ),it felt like it required some additional effort to start the wheel to turn , like the truck wanted to go straight. After the EMS Hubs installed , Steering seems more linear, no notch ...
Also, there seems to be some MPG gain ( I had a CAD, so gains not as much as non-CAD) ), Really hard to tell as most of my diving is loaded ( it defenitly didn't get worse ) ( Did get 23 + MPG on an empty trip to Ind.(1800 miles ))

EMS was great to deal with, !!! You talk to Real people, who know there product.
Thanks qwest. I will probably give it a try. What I will likely do first is take it on a longer test drive, maybe 100 miles or so. The test drives I've done were only 40 miles and it was cold. Thanks again.

I also noticed that my steering was different. It seems it just steers more easily and that the wheel turns more easily. Also, especially considering the cold temps up here, the rolling resistance when I start out with the truck cold is substantially noticeably less. This has to improve milage.

Just a Hint on Adjusting Spindle nuts,

Make sure Pin is in lock ring hole. ( easy to break off )
If torqued with lock ring cocked.

I have a spare Lock ring ( with pin ) just in case ( I'm and OLD clut's now )
And, I'm told that if the pin shears, you can drive it out a little to 'make do'

Looks like a year has passed on this thread to current. Any update on the EMS kit now; is it all worked out to where it'd be ready to go for ABS, CAD (what is that by the way?), or any other details.

I am very interested in manual locking hub kit for the mpg gains during the non winter months...and the reported ease of maintainance on the front end. One person on this thread pointed to Ford front axle; that's an interesting idea....anyone else go this route? Is it popular way to go for our trucks?

I have about 5000 miles on my EMS lockouts now and no problemo at all. I can't say they helped the fuel mileage though. Intuitively I would think that they would have to. I went with the 35 inch tires at essentially the same time as the hub install and actually have noticed a drop of about 4 mpg. I had been getting 20 mpg with the stock tires, suspension, and bumper and a Gear Vendor Overdrive behind the 6 speed manual. I put on the big Ranchhand bumper, then a couple months later the tires, a Lorenz leveler kit, and the lockouts. I am guessing that the lift, tires, and big nonaerodynamic bumper are the culprits. Oh, in that same time period, I also installed a Quadzilla standard box and put on a Donaldson muffler. Who knows what is helping and what is hurting. Needless to say I am a bit disappointed as I was really hoping to improve mpg a bit.
