calling all guys with lock out hubs!
having a problem with my truck for the last two weeks. then found another problem. so this is where i need help- top determine if both problems are related or not.
for the past two weeks truck has been going into tow/haul mode by itself. may happen three times on a drive-may not happen for a week. (i am assuming i have a bad tow/haul button-throwing no codes).
a buddy of mine scanned the obd 2 before i went ahead and ordered a new gear shifter. no codes came up, but he got this message- "no communication with the transfer case!"
4x4 works fine-light on the dash works. mind you-i have the manual 4x4 gear shift-not the electronic 4x4 button! my mechanical transfer case has no communication with the computer, i thought. i then thought maybe because the front end is not spinning all the time- the computer can't communicate??
so, here is the question-any of you guys with lock out hubs have the ability to do a scan on your truck with the manual 4x4 shifter to see if you get the same message??? so, i can figure out which way to proceed. thanks. rob

It is possible that the scanner you used just assumes there should be some kind of transfer case signal that is verry common on most 4 wheel drives these days.
If you had an electric shift transfer case the signal to activate the shift solenoid from the switch would go through the ECM.
The ECM would either monitor a current draw on this circuit to know if the solenoid should of activated, or it would monitor another switch (mabey the dash 4x4 switch, or another) to know if the solenoid did activate.
My manual shift transfer case only has 1 (2 wire) switch for the dash 4x4 light.
I could be wrong but if you used that scanner on another manual shift transfer case truck you will most likely see the same message, or if you tried it on an electric shift T-Case that works you will probrably not see that message.

I have a manual transfer case and hubs and I have never seen that code. I've scanned by truck numerous time with my Smarty and have never run across that code.

Sorry to hijack but did you guy's see a good increase in fuel mileage after doing the lock out hub conversion? I have 4:10's in my truck with the 6 speed and I get about 17 mpg at 75mph that is until I hook up my 4 place enclosed snowmobile trailer. After that I just leave my debit card out in the little cubby by the shifter cuz I know I'm gonna need it soon.
