A little disappointed in my 95

After getting my gauges installed, I started doing some mods. Here is what I have done. A new overflow valve, a 100 plate full forward, AFC in the middle and tweaked for some smoke not too much. A manual boost controller set to 30-32psi. Washer mod and a straight pipe.

The truck runs much better and pulls hard to 3200 rpm. It just seems like I should have more fuel, I have no smoke once the turbo spools. Tonight I did a 0-100 run and the pyro hit 1100 degrees. Am I expecting too much or is it just my 160 pump? What should be my next mod? Injectors, DV's ? Any advice and shared experience is appreciated.

Thanks Fred

Fred , it looks like your going about the same route that i took with my 95. From what you describe i would say your right on track for your bombs , these 160 pumps hold back quite abit compared to a 215. Throw a set of dv's in there and you will double your smoke, but even with DV's, the smoke will still clear up once the charger lights.

So i would say that a set of dv's or injectors would be next on your list , just remember that some of the bigger injectors ( especially 370's) do not like 160 pumps with stock DV's.

JKM,

Thanks for the reply. What size DV's should I get? I think I may have found a set of used 215's from a 97 5-speed. Are they much of an improvement over the 160's. If not what are some good low-midrange injectors? I don't want to go too big since I tow about 50% of the time. I keep my turbo at 30-32psi, will it lead a long happy life at this psi, or should I back it down some?

Thanks

Fred

you have pretty much the same setup as me, cept mine stops fueling at about 3500. maybe loosten up your gov springs a click or two. also I have my wastegate completely isolated so I see 38-40 psi. I know its above the map. also have my timing bumped up to about 16.5* I see smoke the whole way down the track. its not thick smoke, but there is definately some coming out. also my EGTs get up to about 1500 on the 1/4 mile runs. 15.7 is my best time so far. this is with stock sized tires on by the way, and my tranny is all stock with a lockup switch.

Ive still got stock injectors and just adding 191 DV's along with the other mods you have as well made the truck pretty much max out the turbo. It hits 40PSI if I dont keep my eye on the gauge, so its time for a bigger turbo.
Going to go with SPS 64 and 435's I think. Theres been some debate about if the 64 can push enough air to clear the 435's completely though.

I ran 191 dv's and 370 injectors with my old 160 pump. Ran pretty good too.

I'd get some full cut DV's... you can't go wrong w/ 370's for "bang for the buck"

Second that motion

a really nice kick over stock.. I still remember when i got mine in.. WOOO!!

On edit, a 215 pump or even a 180 pump will wake up that truck.. But for the most part.. u can still make good power on a 160 pump truck...

My advice, get it timed as well....

Rick

Piers or Sheid has some things they can do to the 160 pump. Cant rememeber which one it was. Might want to chick into that. I think I remember reading about a guy making like 800 hp on #2 with a 160 pump.
