just a suggestion, cut the angle off of the tip flush if you're gonna keep the stock tailpipe. it makes it look like a 4" system until you look at it closer

I bought mine with a CAT & 12" CAT back system. I dumped the CAT & it got real loud in the cab. Then had the tailpipe routed straight out the back ... end of cab noise.

I have tried to tell owners this several times, it is the end of the "drone" problem. I can't even hear my exhaust in the cab.

Edelbrock....

If I am not mistaken, that Flo-Pro muffler is an Edelbrock product. But since the Edelbrock line is actually called a PRO FLO, maybe it's a knockoff?

Haulin, are you talking about routing the tip as shown in Forrest"s pic? Or do you mean pointing straight out the back?

I cut mine off at the last elboe and extended it back, it runs at a slight angle towards the outside. In a day or so I will post a picture in my albumn. An old post had it posted.

I asked if I had a cat or a resonator and didn't really get a definite answer, so I asked a Dodge mechanic. He said that '96 should be the last year without a cat, but looked under it to be sure. Sure enough, it is a resonator. So now I can cut away without fear of the enviro-*****.

the 96's have cats. all '94-98 12valves (with the exception of some very early '94s as i read a tdr mag??) have cats from the factory. the newer 24valves have resonators. the 93 and below CTD's only had a muffler.

the cat expands from 3"ID to around 7" or 8" and then back down to 4"OD.

the resonator goes from 3"ID to around 6" diameter and then back to 4"OD pipe. however, the resonator has a straight body like a typical muffler rather than the long expanding shell on the cat.

You could cut away, even if it turns out to be a cat. Ye ol' sawzall a couple clean cuts. Grab a long rod & BFH ... cat guts be gone.

forest do you have to do emmission tests on your truck. we don't and i only had a resonater in the middle. the exhust guy that did mine used the stock hangers so it looks real good and sounds great.

I am from CT and we have emmisions tests done here. Mine is due in early Feburary. They do the throttle to the floor test as well as a visual inspection. My tailpipe has worn through at the hanger and I need to replace my exhaust. The truck is a 97 and has a CAT on it with 201,000 miles. Other than a K&N, it is stock. I am thinking of ordering a 4" Aluminized exhaust from Diesel Performance and getting a 4" CAT from Power House Diesel which is a 4" in and out normally for Fords though. What do you think?
I can not spend over $1000 for a stock CAT from Dodge.

sc dc still thinks they are the only game in town i guess. i would have to do the test to here but the limit is 8500# gvw in wa. and mine is 8800#gvw. You should be able to find what you need online or at a parts store alot cheaper than dc.

jigdog ... haven't in the past, but this is the 1st year. I haven't done the test yet.

It's gonna be interesting. The Mach 3's smoke WAY less than the 300 marines, so that's a +. I'll be sure & crank the AFC spring back all the way & run the test.

If they do a visual, like they do on the gassers ... nada CAT ... I loose. If I have to put back on the CAT, I'll get a long rod & pound out it's innards. The additional glitch is that it's got a 3" inlet, so I'll have to get someone to cut the body of the CAT @ the 4" mark so it'll weld up to the 4" exhaust.

I would look at a high-flow cat converter from Random Technology or some place like that. That way you can get your performance AND stay legal. The high-flow cats are also less prone to sooting up.
