k&n vs bhaf
Which K&N?
OEM Brick type? Cone type? Specifics are good here.
The K&N will likely flow more than a BHAF. Its a toss up....you have flow or you have filtering. If you want to increase on one of those you have to give up on the other.
That being said, I took the K&N off of my truck and its not going back on.

Sand goes through it??? Why in the heck would you leave it on that expensive toy? I'm callin BS. If you had sand going through your filter, you would change it, or the motor in one tank of gas.
I once ran a die hard honda four stroke 250 XL at the dunes and one of the beginners wrecked it while I was out playing with the real bikes. The filter element jarred loose and it started to suck sand. By the time I got back from my ride, hours later, I noticed that the camp bike POS trainer... was blowing lots of smoke and so I hopped on it, way down on power. The bike was worthless in my opinion so I let them continue to ride it and by the time we left later that day, it was seized up. Sand kills motors fast! When I got home, i pulled the side cover and saw that the element had jarred loose and the intake was littered with sand.

My 97 had a K&N cone type filter, about 16" long, on it when I bought it. I traded my buddy a BHAF for the K&N. His 95 PSD repsonded very well to it, and the fit was much better than the BHAF. I think the BHAF quieted the turbo whistle on my truck, but I don't feel that I lost much, if any, power. I will stick with the BHAF, it may not flow the CFM, but it filters ALOT better.

iv had my k&n on for 3 years and it keeps egnough out just make sure to clean and oil it and you will be fine. the bhaf is paper so you filter a little better, just depends on what you want
K&N was the only filter company that could filter the sand from going into the helicopter engines, during the Gulf war. If it is good for the aviators it is good for me. I have had mine on for about 30,000 miles and no problems.
Joking aside, just because they use it on a helicopter doesnt necessarily mean that the filter is any good. I could be wrong (some of you guys in the Gulf will be able to correct me on this) but I would suspect that military vehicles (including helicopters) dont always get the best maintenance. If something wears out or simply quits working - they just get a new one.
Doc I was afraid you movin to the north would impair you.
My engine sounds like a helicopter engine when it is spooling up.
The thing about a helicopter engine is ya just don't want it to quit when your out and about. Pulling over to the side of the sky to lift the hood just doesn't work. I believe helicopters are in the area of 10 hour maintenance to 1 hour of flight time. The thing is when a helicopter quits running after take off good chances are there will be a new one and a new everything else including the crew and passengers.
Doc I think you should rub garlic and sausage on your forehead to help with effects of the new latitude. And not just any sausage some of that home made stuff that is every house in the neighborhood.

. I think you need a vacation after breaking your rules, an Island vacation in the Pacific ocean.
