Just installed new Pyrometer. Question?
Just installed new Pyrometer. Question?
Just installed new Pyrometer. Took the truck for a test drive. At 60 mph the EGT runs at 550. Then once back at the house I let it cool down for 3 minutes the the EGT was at 275. Just wondering how this compares with some of the other trucks out there that have a Pyrometer install? This is on a 93 5.9 Cummins Turbo
Re:Just installed new Pyrometer. Question?
Those are pretty close to my readings, generally. I have a post-turbo installation and you can see my truck in my sig, and on page 8 in the member photo section.

Yep post turbo. I talked to several diesel shops and non of them recommended drilling the exhaust manifold. All of the diesel shops recommended installing the probe post turbo. I installed it 1 3/4 inches behind the turbo.

Re:Just installed new Pyrometer. Question?
Mine runs at 700 or so (pre turbo) at highway speeds. It cools to 250-275 within a minute or so on cool down when the outside temps are in the hi 70s. If I wait two mins it will go as low as 250.

Shop that rebuilt my turbo recommended per-mount. I did it on my 90 while the turbo was at the shop so I could get everything cleand out. I'm kinda clumsy, but it wasn't a bad job. You might consider doing it anyway if you plan on doing any turbo mods. I run a little hotter on the Freeway as I don't have O.D.

My old '99 was post-turbo, and 250 - 275 is what it would cool down to after a couple of minutes idle. My new truck is pre-turbo, and cruise is between 550 and 600, with cooldown to 150 - 175 after a few minutes idle.

Re:Just installed new Pyrometer. Question?
Since I have changed my exhaust from stock to a UltraFlow now at 60 mph my EGT is running 525 and after a few mintues of cool down it's 175. Getting rid of the stock muffler sure does help things....
