'03 4" exhaust & Edge EZ -REPORT-
Just finished a weekend of tweaking ;D

I put Rip Rook's 4" exhaust system on...started with it straight piped - as my '97 was straight piped and had no 'drone' problems. I was a little nervouse about the '03 - so I bought a muffler as well just incase. The straight pipe lasted one day :-[ the loudness wasn't bad at all - I really liked the sound of the pipe, but I got this reverberation between 2000 & 2300 when shifting through the gears. It was pretty annoying, pretty much rattling everything in the cab (is this drone that others speak of ???). Once in 6th and humming down the road it was fine - but getting up to speed was a bummer. So, I pulled the pipe out and put the muffler in (diamond eye from Rip). MUCHO better ;D Could be a little noiser out the pipe for me, but I guess it is probably better to be not so anoying to everyone else. It really sounds good. Turbo lag was greatly improved, turbo spools right up nearly immediatly.

After the exhaust was to my satisfaction, I installed the Edge EZ (setting #4 of course) and boost elbow
Fairly impressive. Not earthshattering - but very nice. Definate improvement. It will be interesting to tow with it now. Probably the biggest suprize was watching the boost gauge wrap around past the 35 psi mark...oops, hope it doesn't damage the 0-35 psi gauge...I was able to get Exhaust gas temp up higher than I wanted to see, since I wasn't even pulling a trailer. But, I have a heck of a steep hill near my house that I use for testing - so the truck had a fair load on it just pulling the hill. I saw 1200 degrees allready..not much headroom for the trailer... I have drilled three 2.5" holes in the front of the airbox pointing right out to the grill - similar to the Scotty III - just no protrusion reaching out to the grill itself - And I still have the stock (laim) air filter element in. If EGT's are too high while towing I'll have to get a scotty III and hope that it gets more air into her than my set up.

Anyhow - hope this helps anyone thinking of doing exhaust and edge EZ on a '03- they both get two thumbs up from me!

Rob
Re:'03 4" exhaust & Edge EZ -REPORT-
One more note on the exhaust...I decided to re-use the factory tail piece since it is 4" pipe, is a one piece section, and has the factory hanger on it. The pieces that come with the exhaust kit is a two piece tail pipe, and uses a clamp hanger for the mount. The stock piece worked very well with the new system - just had to cut off the small piece of 3.5" that went into the stock muffler, then added a very short piece of 4" out of the new muffler to hook in to the tailpiece.

-r
MisterKTM,

We have seen very similiar results with and without a muffler, so far everybody goes with a muffler even when they start out without one. By the way you might try that tail pipe, it might flow a little better than the stocker and get you a little EGT drop. We have seen that with ours over the stock tail pipe, better smoother radius bends etc, it's not a monster gain but every little bit helps with max power, hills and a trailer.

Mark
DPPI
Re:'03 4" exhaust & Edge EZ -REPORT-
Just wanted to say that I agree with what you said. I put on the DPP exhuast and thier tail pipe is one piece and has the hanger welded to it, a perfect fit.

Sound like we are in the same place, I have the stock air box yet also along with the EZ. I am hoping to get my X-Monitor by the week end so I can through 20,000# behind it and see what the temps do. I know an air box is in my future.
Re:'03 4" exhaust & Edge EZ -REPORT-
I just got my TTPM in this morning. With it installed my max boost went to 33.7, highest egt with boat in tow was 889, and the interesting one, fuel pressure was pulled down to .1 psi. and set off my low fuel alarm which I had set at 4 psi. All readings taken from my xmoniter. The lowest I was able to spike my fuel before installing the box was 6.2. Overall the box helped quite a bit towing, with some seat of the pants improvement unloaded.
