Inquiring on VP44 Upgrade with programmer.

What are your thoughts on the best VR44 and Power Tuner out there for my 6-Speed? I bought a 2001.5 Dodge Ram 2500 H.O. TD 6-speed QC SB a few weeks ago. It has 192K miles. (mostly highway)

I was reading about how everyone's Injector & Lift Pumps went on them. Got me a little worried about mine, knowing the mileage. This week I noticed that I've been getting less gas mileage

I'm thinking about a SMARTY Tuner and the FASS VP44028X Injector pump, with a 95 or 150gph Lift pump kit! What do you guys think? What's good?

If you are going to add a programmer or bigger injectors I would go with a standard output pump rather than the HO. You will get better HP numbers with the same upgrades with a SO pump. If you're going to leave everything stock ( i doubt that) then go with the HO pump.

Smarty and a fuel system would be a good start imo. There are a lot of options besides the fass, but it'd get the job done.

Since you have a 01 you can use the key trick: without starting the truck turn the key on, off, on, off, on for codes to pop up on the odometer. I wouldn't rush into a new vp44 just yet.

Best set-up for you is RV275 injectors and van Aaken V5.
Cheap and very effective for towing.

I'll have to try out that key trick... thanks.

I just have a feeling my VP44 will be going on me soon. It's got 192K on it.
What are the Top 3 VP44's out there? Should it be new or is a remanufactured alright?

After I install that, I'll probably get a programmer in the spring. What are the top 3 programmers out there?

I was talking to someone about the RV275 Inj.s and they said they didn't feel much of a difference. I might stick with the stock one's, or get something other than Bosch.

Any vp44 you buy is going to be arebuilt one, to the best of my knowledge they are all rebuilt within factory specs, the only real differenecs would be if you get like a hot rod vp44 but I have heard that they idle pretty rough and you'd be better offf just adding a box or programmer. If replacing your vp I would just try and find the best deal on one. If your looking for bigger injectors I would check out Formula Ones or DDP's.

You don't know that the IP is going to go out, we have a member with well over 200k on his original one, and you don't know if the PO replaced it. I wouldn't even consider replacing a good VP. Maybe buying one so you'd have a spare, but not replacing it.

First thing I'd do would be put some gauges, especially FP on it and see what you are dealing with.

Thanks... I know gasoline engines, I'm getting into Diesel's with my first truck. So all the input has been helpful!

Anyone like the Edge Juice with Attitude? Up to 120 HP, plus 15 read outs.

It depends on how much HP you want.

75hp- I would suggest a Quad XZT or Smarty.

150hp+ You will need injectors or a fueling box such as the Quad Adrenaline or Edge Comp. Either way you will need all the supporting mods at this HP level.

EX: Guages, Intake, upgraded lift pump such as the FASS and fuel lines.
