injectors vs. tips
I breifly searched on this but couldnt find anything. I'm looking into some more fueling and cant decide on injectors or just the nozzles. I'm looking at some around the 120 to 150 hp. What are pros and cons between the two.
Full injectors are a better way to go. I was in your shoes about 4 months ago and found out that even though nozzles are cheaper you almost spend the same amount gettin them reballanced by an injector shop to make sure they spray even. I called Lenny at DDP and got a set from him. He make all of his injectors in-house.
If you're going for that size injector, I'd say get a full injector from a good shop. F1, DDP, I hear a lot of guys like the new II sticks. I've got DDP's in my 24v that I really like, and I have a set of F1's for my 12v waiting to go in. I'm expecting about the same quality as my DDPs.
See I used to be the same way and thought tips werent worth a nickle and wouldnt get them, but when i actually found out by looking at them, i dont understand why they wouldnt be as good as an injector. cuz arent you just pulling your old tips off and replacing with on with bigger holes and sometimes more holes? Isnt that pretty much the same thing that has been done to bigger injectors? I dont know if thats clear or not, but I dont see why they wouldnt be as good as an injector. I've heard to not go with tips over about 150 hp tips, but anything under that would be ok.
It's because you don't know if you'll end up with a balanced set if you simply slap in the nozzles. Sure, you could take the gamble and slap them in, but I've seen trucks here locally where an injector is not opening at the same pressure as the rest. Or, you could take the nozzles and your old bodies to a pump shop to have assembled and setup, but then you'd be in it almost as much as just buying the full injectors.
At least with the full injectors you know they are a balanced set, and usually a better warranty.
Don't forget, your 98.5 is going to need the connector tubes for an injector job.

Explain to me about the connector tubes. are you talking about the long skinny tubes going from the lines down to the injector? If so, why would i need them.
Ive got a friend that does all sorts of little things like this to his 99 and he had his drilled out a little bit. (not sure of the size) is that what your talking about? Those tubes made his truck run really rough, almost like it had a different cam in it.
So with just the tips, they arent really a 'matched set'? What would it do it they werent exactly the same pressures?

Thing with installing tips, they need to be pop tested.
On earlier model engines, the connector tubes can be deformed.

Your friend pretty much screwed up the way the pressure is maintained in the injection lines. Enlarging the tubes is like retarding the timing, that's why it's rough.

I don't have the numbers handy but look up the later part number for the tube and anytime pulling one replace it if it is not the late part number. If you play with these things you end up with a bag of them in the shop. Just don't reuse the old part number once pulled out.
