Depends on what your plans are. You would not be able to go above probably a Mach 1, or maybe a 1.5 without getting a boost fooler, or you will set an overboost code. If that's all the bigger you are planning on going then you would be okay, with the injectors. If it was me I would get the comp box. It acts as a boost fooler, and even without the pump wire tapped it would give you 45-60 more hp. Once you get used to that, then tap the wire, and edge states that you will have 120hp over stock, or even more if you get the drag (hot) comp. Just be prepared to spend some money on the trans, once you do that.

I agree...Box first, for two reasons. Boost fooler and the adjustability will allow you to better protect your tranny!

the next set i would do is get a edge comp or drag comp and run it un tapped until you get the tranny done then tap the pump wire with these boxs you can run untapped and it will be like running a edge ez till you tap the pump wire and then you have all the power that the box will make and then if thats not enough and we all know once you start making more power its never enough then do injectors and a turbo or two.

While I agree that you should get a box first, the KIND of box you should get is something that I'm not so sure about.

This is because I am in love with the smooth, controllable power delivery that injectors offer. For a given amount of Cubic Dollars, I think you can do well with just injectors and a cheap boost fooler.

Follow me here:

Say you want to add 100hp to your 24V. You have a choice of box only, injectors only (plus boost fooler), or box AND injectors.

Mach EDMs are $800. Boost fooler is ~$120. Total cost= ~$920.

Edge Comp will give 100hp to all but HO trucks. Total Cost= ~$650 HO trucks need at least 275s with the Comp to give 100hp. Add ~$350 for the Bosch injectors. Total= ~$1K

Say you want to add 150HP to your 24V. We'll ignore the clutch and turbo other upgrades needed to do it right. NOw....

Mach 4s: $900

Comp+ Mach 1s= ~$1150

I would tend to favor BOTH a box AND injectors. That way, you can strike a balance best for you. Some people don't mind cranking up the box, so they don't need as much injector. Likewise, some people prefer the compromises of a "showerhead" injector and prefer to lower the duty cycle on the pump.

I prefer the latter, as I think the pump can be hurt in the long term with too much duty cycle. So I'd generally recommend that you go one notch bigger on the injector and turn the box down a notch.

Note: Don M says that the HO VP44 should not have an injector larger than a Mach 3.5, as the pump doesn't have enough capacity to really support something bigger.

I agree with HOHN, save your pump and go with the injectors

Any concrete data out there to suggest that a Comp will adversely affect the life of a VP44 over a large injector?

Injectors you have to choose what power you want, Edge adjustable on the fly 40-120HP. If your transmission is stock a set of 90-110HP injectors will be hard on it, with the comp keep the power down until you upgrade trans. then just turn it up.
