Injectors
Don, which of your injectors will deliver the best MPG? Are the 1.5s cleaner than the 1s? I am kinda thinking maybe of going smaller on injectors and then tapping the wire for fun
Still, the idea of an unmolested wire and 3.5s REALLY is tempting

I recently heard that up grading to almost any size of injector makes your truck run "funny" around town---stop and go driving--runs like crap. I know how they perform while towing or racing, but has anyone experienced this "funny" thing with up-graded injectors. I'm curious b/c I am about to up grade mine.
Thanks

Hmm, mine got really funny. Better cold starting, like tick on the starter and the engine hits on all 6 instantaneously, very stable idle under all temps. Only "problem" is that with the mach3s it's a bit touchy on the go pedal.

I'm getting into this thread a little on the late side, but I'd like to share a few observations about Formula 1's (Don's) EDM injectors:
1) Lower smoke than any other injector on the market, for the given power level. 80 pony F1's (Mach 1.5s) will smoke less than a DD2, and MUCH less than a Bully Dog 2.
2) Better bottom side performance than a comparable extruded injector.
3) The F1 injectors are flow matched to within .03% and pop-off matched under 1%. Typical extruded injectors will be pop-off matched within 2%, but we've seen some recent wild variations in flows (up to 12%) in extruded injectors. Our last two sets of DD2s idled poorly, and smoked heavily off-boost due to the poor flow matching. We weren't at all happy.
4) Lower EGT than a comparable extruded injector, due to better efficiency.
We threw our lot in with Don early last year, after a couple sets of DD injectors failed to perform to our expectations. We haven't looked back since, and indeed we haven't sold a single extruded injector since winter of last year.
At the risk of inflating his already monumental ego
, I can say there isn't anyone building injectors who takes as much care in producing a product as Don does. He's constantly refining the nozzles that he created (and make no mistake about it, the new EDMs coming on the market from a variety of companies are nothing more than pale imitations of Don's nozzle), and he delivers a product that is quite simply second to none in the diesel marketplace.

Billg: I tested the Mach3s for opacity too. They perfomed better than stockers with the pulse on the most aggressive setting. (I had the box set down to least responsive-meaning low fueling under low boost) They don't smoke if I drive reasonably, if I get on it they will make a good puff of smoke that will clear up at about 20 psi of boost. Not even a haze at 35psi. Well, that's with my winter setup, that is still driveable on snow covered roads.
When I installed them and had the lines tight again (bit of a PIA when it's freezing) and all the air was out I was amazed by the cool turbine-like idle I had.
The low end torque is astounding.

thank God Don lives in Texas- this state should be sufficiently sized to still house his ego after he read this

Lots of good low end towing TQ and the fuel economy went up 2MPG. The injects will be paid for in fuel savings this year.

Have you ever had a chance to tinker with PTD or Celect injectors. I'd like to see what some new technology would do on a heavy truck application.
Boyd.
The thought has crossed my mind. So far I have kept it to the:
Dodge/Cummins ( 1st gen, 2nd gen and now testing the Common Rail 3rd gen )
John Deere
Dodge/Sprinter Mercedes JTD 5 cyl. engine
BMW Diesel
Mecedes Diesel
I have EDM injectors for all these now. The later two engines are in Germany only. I have less than 20 sets in Germany, but the word is spreading fast.
The Celect injectors are expensive to "get into", equipment wise anyway. The flow test part of it.
How are yours working for you?? I like input....good and bad

I absolutely love mine so far, Don. It's only been a week, but several people have been asking me about them. I'm gonna post my results when I get a few more miles on.
Thank you for a great product.

Issues.....
My truck still has "issues"! I have to test the valves and the rings. I can smell oil burning when it idles for a bit and it smokes of oil at idle when cold.
Having said all of that... Don's Mach 6 injectors really woke my truck up. My dyno results went up almost 80 hp over my "mystery" stage 3 Honed injectors. Why mystery? The stage 3 Honed Injectors smoked more than ANY DDIII's or even BD4's I have ever been around.
The drivability actually went up!!!! Yes we are having cooler weather here in Texas but these injectors don't smoke very much for 220hp+ injectors.
Major Good Work Don!!!

James, if you are referring to the same "mystery stage 3" injectors that some RMTDR guys are using, I am a little familiar with them.
I wasn't impressed. Lots of smoke and not as much power as there should have been. My truck with EZ and DD2s was about as strong as a comparable truck that had a COMP and the "mystery 3s".
Fuel delivery QUALITY certainly seems to be AT LEAST as important as quantity in determining how much power will be made.
The atomization of SOME injectors is so poor that it takes a LOT more air (thus, boost, thus exhaust backpressure) to get them to not smoke.
Though I have never experienced them firsthand, I am a big fan of EDMs, particularly Don's.
Apparently, others are as well. Rod @ Wildcat hasn't sold a SINGLE honed injector since November!!!!
