i want to do the same thing with my '99. i called up Dynomite Diesel Performance in Monroe, WA, and they said that it is necessary to upgrade your turbo when you add the 150HP injectors or the EGTs will run too high... i'm pretty sure that's what he said about the EGTs, but i can't remember exactly. i'm new to the game so clarify the last part if i'm wrong!

Well, you don't HAVE to change the turbo. But you will run into temp issues under load or under WOT.

I ran a small turbo with sticks bigger than that. But, I don't tow heavy and I have self control.

Point is, at cruise, it takes no more turbo than what you currently have. Eventually. You'll want to upgrade the air side to use all the fuel and to keep EGTs in check.

If you want to drop in the injectors and run it that way until you can afford to upgrade, I wouldn't be afraid of doing it. Just keep in mind, you need to address it at some point.

Many people shy away from doing any upgrades because of the hit from doing it all at once. Personally, I would prefer that it could be all done at one time, but reality is, people don't always do that.

More fuel = more heat. The stock turbos can only cool so much before it is only pumping hot air into your engine. The vp44 injection pump needs fuel to lubricate it & keep it cool. The stock lift pump [fuel pump] can only supply so much & if you add injectors will run the supply dry. This is why guys should start by building a solid foundation before building the house. I will give you guys a great piece of advice that I never got & it cost me a $1200 injection pump & $600 lift pump before I found out. Get a fuel pressure gauge & a exhaust gas temperature gauge [egt]. Then get a good fuel system like a Fass or Airdog before adding any injectors or modules/tuners to make sure that you don't burn up the vp44 pump as most of us did before finding out. A stock turbo can only handle a set of 100hp injectors at most without staring at the egt gauge.

With 80hp sticks and a power puck I only see 1100 deg. at 34 lbs of boost. so you should be alright with a boost fooler. my stock lift pump still puts out 6psi at WOT.

just wondering why you think this guy is a newbie? also im not saying your advice isn't good but there are alot of trucks out there that run FASS systems and still loose their IP's. so i would be more concerned with him getting a fuel psi guage first.

Are you going to tow with the truck?

What are your future mods? (wish list)

Fill out your Sig so we know what you have already.

If you are stock right now forget about the injectors. There are alot more important things to add first.

1. gauges: fuel press., pyro, boost
2. 4" exhaust
3. Some type of box for power (timing) I wish I went with Smarty.
4. You can stick with the stock lift pump. But after the second failure I went with a FASS

In my case I should upgrade the Auto trans next but I'm doing the RV275 (40 hp) next. I will see what happens to the trans
