Injector install.

I was just wandering, when you put 370 injectors in you are supposed to use the Thin washers at the bottom of the injector. What happens if you use the bigger wahsers? What if you put one big washer in and the trest thin by mistake?
DM01

Re:Injector install.

When I did mine, I was told you would not get the right amount of spray pattern using the thicker washer. I accidentaly put one is as you did and just took the time to do it right.

Don Miller
97 2500, #8 plate, 3k springs, 16 deg timed, PDR 370's, Scotty 2, Rip's 4" shorty, Custom Tranny by Frank

Re:Injector install.

putting the thick washers in will raise the injectors up too high. if fuel goes over the top of the cylinder then that'll get into the piston skirt and wash down the cylinders from there.

Tom

Re:Injector install.

But will it hurt the piston thst the injector has the thickre washer on it. Just wandering incase I ever run across a person who has done this so I can say change it out fast or its not a problem but you should change it out sooner than later?
DM01

Re:Injector install.

i don't believe that it will unless the extra .020" is enough to raise the injector up enough to spray over the top of the piston, rather than in the bowl. washdown isn't a good thing!!but if it doesn't spray over the bowl, then i would say that it's not bad, but i'd bet that power would be down/bad.

Tom

btw, from some confusion before i got the thicker washers from cummins..almost $22

Re:Injector install.

Prolonged use of incorrect washers will dilute your oil by allowing the unburned diesel to wash past the rings. Diluted oil equals excessive main and rod bearing wear, and can gall the camshaft or the journals where the cam runs directly on the casting in the block.

Suffice to say, it is not wise to use the wrong washers.
