I'm Dissapionted, help!

Ok, everyone I had the day off and my friend did as well, so we took the oppurtunity to take my truck up to Gullo Ford and Mercury in Conroe and make two dyno runs and one simulated quarter mile race on their Mustang dyno.

To be honest I was shocked when I looked at the computer after I made my first run and only saw 220-something HP and 600-ish LB.FT. I figured I would have atleast made close to 300... after two more dyno runs my best run was-
239.3 HP @2250 RPM
620.4 LB.FT @2000RPM

My simulated quarter mile didnt go too well being my clutch started slipping a little in the top-end of 4th gear and then didn't hold 5th at all so I think my E.T. was like 21 seconds... lol.

Do those numbers sound reasonable? During my actual dyno runs my clutch didn't slip any noticebale amount btw. I had my AFC FF, starwheel maxxed out, and 100 plate slid FF, and also I saw a max EGT of 1520* and 38 PSI. It runs great and on dry pavement will kick the backend around just rompin' on it in 3rd pretty easily. What does everyone here suggest I do? What should I check for etc...? My friend I went up there with dyno'd 353HP with a #10 FF in his '98, why would mine be so much less? Sorry for the long post everyone but I am SOO confused and frustrated Thanks for your help in advance tho!

If your clutch was slipping on your simulated quarter mile run , it likely slipped during your normal dyno runs. What Gear did you dyno in?

Just for everyone else who is reading here , i just got off the phone with Chris (muddin dude) and he made the runs in 4th , and one in 3rd , the 3rd gear run netted him 215 hp. He said he EGT's were slightly lower than normal.

were you able to observe your smoke???? or were you run through the exhaust tubing??? im thinking you might be over fueled with that many mods..... what injectors, and GSK are you running? a 100 plate is pretty friggin radical + the star wheel tweak. the fact that your clutch was slippin wont help you one bit.....

you might want to go back to basics and start over with your small mods, and do a dyno run, then add on a lil more radical one and see what you gain/lose.... then tune accordingly

Was there about a year ago.

fifth is the good one, now if your clutch is bad, then expect about 50 hp less, and those large tires are hurtin u as well.. Just get a good clutch in there and add some timing to it as well, and ull be good to go...

I was able to watch the smoke in my right side mirror, from 40mph to 50mph in 4th it would blow quite a bit but then once it got to 10 PSI or so it would start clearing it up and by 38PSI it was a thick haze. I still have stock injectors (as far as I know of atleast) and no GSK YET (I'll probably order a 4GSK by the end of the week) when making the runs once I hit 2900RPM it would drop almost all the boost and practically fall on its face. Could pulling the plate back a little bit help? I did make it a pretty deep cut 100 when I grinded it (I polished the surface the arm rides on so it shouldnt have too much resistance). Also on my sheet they have my weight listed as 5500lbs, could that make a difference on the load it applied to my truck? I'm puzzled... lol

Hey TXDiesel, do you still have the stock input shaft or have you replaced it with something aftermarket? Thanks everyone!

ok get this

with 370s, 16.5 degrees of timing, and a bad clutch i was able to hit 350 rwhp, U also need the gsk to widen that powerband, i would actually have expected 250 is or so with the 100 plate alone, and some timing, but that stock timing is hurting you alot as well. The weight of your truck will not affect the dyno so long as i know, but 5500 lbs for a truck like mine and yours is kind of light.. how was your plate positioning, ur afc and starwheel?

if your governer arm is falling under the plate too that is hurting you as well, PS my plate was 2/3 forward AFC was full forward and starwheel was completely loose..

PS u have a PM

hope this helps

Rick

Well tommorrow if the weather is a little better I will do some tinkering with the plate, starwheel and AFC and do some 4th gear runs down the road. If I can't find something wrong then I will just have to order some bombs to get this number higher !!! I'm thinkin' clutch should be first huh? lol, could a semi shop advance my timming or am I going to have to take it to a performance shop? (I would learn and then do it but I have ZERO time now-a-days). Anymore suggestions are welcome as well!

Just an update for everyone , as i think chris is still at work , His goveroner arm appears to be going under the plate , he slid it back to 2/3 forward and he has more power. , he also found that one of the lines for his Valet switch was pinched.

He is going to try and rectify a few things on his next day off.

I appreciate all your help everyone, I tracked down the source of my frustration with my dyno... My AFC line (the one used for a valet switch) was nearly completely blocked off from being pinched in a 180* bend to the back of the pump. When I slid my plate FF the morning of I didn't notice it because I was in a bit of a hurry I took out and replaced the stock 1/8" NPT fitting on the back of the pump with a needle valve that is at a 90* angle, SOO I fixed that and came out with a valet switch as well! I also slid my plate as close to FF as possible with it still getting hit by the Gov. arm as smooth as poss. I wont be able to leave it at FF until I can find a dang screwdriver short enough to get the cover on the back of the plate off. So after work tommorrow I'll have that screwdriver! After fixing everything my truck is back to the raped ape it should be .... minus a horribly slipping clutch, looks like that is top of the list now! Again thanks for all the help everyone!
