II PS 62/12 or II PS 62/14?
II PS 62/12 or II PS 62/14?
I'm wondering what you guys here would suggest...I called II and they said to go with a 62/14 PS. The truck is a 02 Cummins 4x4 with 120 hp injectors, TST PM3, ATS trans w/triple lock convertor, 4:56 gears, 37" tires, Big K&N filter.
It's a daily driver/tower...The ~avg~ weight when towing is 8k. and lag is an issue.

I had the 62-14 on mine and could not tow with it, EGTs to hot, 1400 or hotter on the hills. I switched to the 12 housing and it tow great if I don't lug it. I have to keep it at 2200 rpms on the steep hills and 1700 or more on the small stuff. Max boost is 40 lbs and max. EGTs is 1200 with my set up. I will be adding a fueling box in the near future.
Hope this helps
I'll be in Salt Lake City in a few weeks and be letting II look at my set up because they still think the 14 would be better for me. There were some others that had the same experience that I had. I'm also thinking about checking out HTTs stainless 13 housing.

Okay, I'll take the bait. How is one noticably slower to spool than another? The're based off the same model and have questionable if any significant differences that would make them noticably different as long as you're talking about 12cm vs 12 cm housings or 14 vs 14.
Is it the larger exhaust of the superPS over the original PS?
I could always be wrong.

Well, 3 for the 62/14...1 for the 62/12... and 1 for HTT. With LAG being a big concern I'm a little afraid of the 14 housing. I guess the 14 would be good for all around driving/fun and the 12 would be beneficial for the least amount of lag for towing. I guess I could put on either one(PS62/12 or PS62/14) and switch the housings over if the one I choose doesn't work out.
As for the PS vs SPS...with the 65mm wheel on the PS vs the 71mm wheel on the SPS I can see why the SPS might have a lag issue.

Everyone is looking/wanting the same thing, fast spool, good cooling, and support HP. But with turbos its always a compromise.... The new turbos of today are superior to the older HX40, 55's, B1's etc of a few years back. But there is give and take on everything.
As for your question of the 12 vs 14 housing, the difference is very small between them... As you mentioned there is a difference between the 71 turbine turbo's and the 65 turbos that is more noticeable. The 14 works the best for almost all but twins or lightly fueled applications. Your current setup should net around 480-500 RWHP and going with too small of a housing will just increase temps and backpressure.

Sounds like the key to the 14 for you is your TST and your injectors! So many with autos say the PS 62/14 spools well, it must be so!
I had a bad experience with a 14 on an auto...but that was with a Holset and a 64mm compressor... and three yrs ago (which is about two generation difference in turbo design/metalurgy).
Follow Dougs advise and you should be right on the first time around!

Well, My mind is made up...Thanks to you guys.
You can't beat expereince!
Unfortunately I am playing "Catch-up" with the Cummins performance set-ups...I have been wrenching and owning PSD's for 10 plus years now and I guess it shows.
Thanks,
Brent.

Why isn't anyone mentioning the II Silver 62 I'm about ready to put that on but no one seems to be talking about it. How come? Are they worth it or not?Or is there no difference between it and the sps62?
