Idea for drug-free power adder

Alright, sitting in class I got to thinking about something... What if we were to plumb a compressed air line into the intake manifold and have it set up on an electronic valve so that it huffs a quick 15 or 20 psi shot of air into the intake when you stab the throttle, possibly giving you great throttle response. You think backflow would be an issue, essentially barking the turbo? What are your thoughts on this?

I think that the issue with this would be the volume of air that you need. A regular air line could deliver the needed pressure but not nearly the volume to do anything. The engine displaces 5.9L so even at low rpms, you are moving a huge amount of air.

If you came up with a system that was large enough diameter to deliver the volume, you might be able to do something with some precise valve control. It would take some work to do the integration but it isn't impossible.

Yeah, that was my next area of concer was if you could get enough mass in there but still keep the pressure somewhat low so you don't blow it backwards through the intake tract... Have to think on this a bit...

I think this is a great idea. I have a 120psi compressor and tank onboard and think that a quick shot (1-10seconds) on the intake horn would be the equivalent of a higher boost setting on the turbo. Maybe 25-35psi for a few seconds would do something. It seems that putting it close to the actual intake wouldn't affect the turbo since it is behind the intercooler and the air would already be entrained....

It's not worth the time in my opinion. Just spray nitrous or propane to get some real gains. Or bigger turbo or injectors, etc...

a couple other things to consider that air cools quite a bit in leaving a compressed container. It also condenses any moisture it might have. Youd need a dessicant dryer or something if the water vapor got bad.
I like the idea but I think the flow rate will be a problem.
