I need a transmission BAD!!!

ok guys I'm sick & tired of this piece of crap transmission, in the last 6 months I've fixed the 5th gear nut twice & had to put a new mainshaft in along with a whole new o/d gear, & this mornin 5th gear went again, I'm sick of this crap, where can I get a transmission (5 or 6 sp. ) that won't break every 3 months, I use my truck way too much to have it sitting around like this, got a couple of tractor deliveries to do today, & it's kinda hard to run in 4th gear w/ 4:10 gears, HELP I gotta get this thing fixed, I've not got it apart to see if it's just the nut or not, as it just happened about 30 min.'s ago, but if it is I'll get it back together long enough to get a good one here, so back to my ?? where can I get something that will hold up?????? thanks, Dusty

I never had that problem...guess I was lucky

If you really want it, a NV5600 is aewsome for towing But with 4.10's, a 5 speed isn't bad either!

I've used Blumenthal MFG for the last two trannies I bought (NV5600, and NV4500 for our 3500HD GM) Great service, and no problems yet!

www.blumenthalmfg.com I think!

Good luck,
Chris

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one havin prob's out of the 4500's,

Mines blew chunks 3 times this year not countin 5th gear commin off several times

Do they even make any upgrades for these trannys other thatn the fully splined mainshaft and 1 3/8 input shaft?

Just got off the phone w/the folks at Bluementhal, it seems they have the NV 5600 w/the input shaft to work w/a 5 spd. clutch & flywheel, so I guess I'm gonna have to go & stick a 6 spd. in the old girl, so what other parts do I need to come up with?? crossmember, & drivelines??, thanks, Dusty

Forgot the drivelines! They can be cut, and lengthened by a good shop, mine were!

There is a 5600 on ebay right now. I had bluementhals do mine for me, so I trailered my rig to them with a 1/2 ton dodge 318 with a 24' gooseneck trailer from NC. I took me 2 days get there as I was in no hurry just wanted to get there.

Anyway, 1 guy did the swap in about 5 hours. I sat there right in the shop and watched. I believe the crossmember is the same may be moved back some but the holes where already on the frame but that was 5 yrs ago. The clutch will have to be changed, mine is from South Bend.

Is Monty still working there?

Just reread! 5 sp clutch and flywheel with 5600, that's cool saves you some money then.

Yep, talked to him this morning to get some parts coming my way!

FWIW, I'd upgrade to the 1-3/8" Input, and the 13.125" clutch. Dusty has some more BOMB's planned, and it'll help in the long run. Kind of a Pay now, or Pay later situation

For some reason or another, I'm always paying now Haven't had any problems with my philosophy yet

On the crossmember thing, some trucks had the later one...my buddy's 99 5 speed does. I could probably get you pictures of my old and new one's if you need them...not hard to tell the difference!!
