...and its junk...

Compressor wheel rubs the housing and the ends of the fins are torn up. and in the auction it clearly states "no impellar contact"

Maybe ill just say **** on it and get an Aurora 3000...

Needless to say im fit to be tied...

get that figured out with the seller and ebay(i assume). If the ad did clearly state no damage, then you should be able to get your money back maybe. I would shooting emails and get that straightened out.

If you paid with paypal, immediately file a claim to protect yourself. Hopefully they can help get your money back if the seller doesn't cooperate.

Yup, forgot about the paypal thing, file with them too if you can't get anything from seller or ebay, Paypal should fix you up and then they can send their goons to get the money afterwards...

You sure that its rubbing? The impeller shouldn't turning if its touching? There an cut in the inlet tip its to match up to the compressor housing. The turbo is pretty simple and cheap to overhaul. Remove the compressor housing and take some pics. You could just find a new impeller and re-balance the shaft, worst case. New seals and shaft, is a good idea at that point. Its a Holset not a china turbo. Tons of cheapo china knock off stuff floating around on ebay. I have a few china garrett that I use a to impress the neighbors. Its buyer beware, that why I buy locally or from a shop listed here on this site. I've been burnd too

If i spin it freely theres no contact, but theres enough endplay to allow the compressor wheel to contact if you spin it with pressure on it, and you can see that the ends of the blades have been rubbing...

Also, this turbo is an HX40-G not an HX40-W whats the difference? there is no soot in the exhaust outlet which i dont understand...

Maybe they put it in the solvent tank for a few days to make it look pretty. I'm sure there are lots of cleaners out there that will dissolve soot.

Could be a thrust bearing issue. Is you're compressor impeller nut tight? You should have some radial movement. Are you getting actual rubs on the impeller when its operating? I have to look at mine to see if I can pull all the way forward and see if it rubs. Remove the compressor housing (snap ring) and see where its rubbing at.

Where could someone find a new impeller for one of these? Also how hard should it be to find a smaller exhaust housing for these because I could only find one and thy wanted somewhere around $400. When I got a different housing for the 35 it was $140. Whats the deal?

Keep phoning around? There are better pricing than that. Try ebay, or a turbo parts wholesaler. HX-40 stuff is pretty cheap, you just have to know where to find. I just buy from my local turbo shop, they like me, so I get a sweet deal.
