I finally get my B1 Quick Spool put in

On Monday ATS is putting on my new B1 Quick spool and boy am I excited, my stock HX35 cannot keep up with these 20%injectors even on level 1 while towing, so I was wondering what kind of performance gains should I expect, I put my truck on a dyno a couple of weeks ago and ran 416hp and 806ftlbs of torque and up at truckfest my best run was a 16.01 but that was because I just could not figure how to get off the line fast enough. How much more do you all think that I will get with this new turbo?? Thanks for any replys, Mike

The fact you made 416hp with a stock turbo amazes me. How much boost were you pushing with that thing? What were your EGT's like? I'd say maybe 50 extra? I have no clue to be honest. I was just amazed that you made that kind of power with a stock turbo. How'd you do it?

I made 440hp with an HX35............ never tried with the HY35. It will make the power, just not very good with the EGT's since anything above 36 to 37psi is useless boost.

As far as the "new" turbo goes, you should at the very least pickup 25 to 35hp.......even if you don't gain any addtional power, I am sure the lower EGT's will make up for it.............

I am actually able to get 34lbs of boost out of this thing, but it sounds like it is just about to explode As far as my EGT's I can hit 1400 fairly easy. Mike

I did 388hp with the factory HY35/9cm turbo and a straight piped stock exhaust. Don't ask what the EGT's were. :'(

what size are your guages? 34 psi 1400 DG I can tell you for sure you are past that. I have less HP and run 40+ and 1500+ when ever I want or even don't want : Make sure you tell us all about this new turbo your getting. I will be shortly needing one with the DV's, injectors, and clutch looking at a PDRHx-40/18 right now but a B1 would work also.

Re:I finally get my B1 Quick Spool put in

Mike:

I have had both models of the B-1 on my 96' 12 valve.
Prior to putting the B-1 on the truck I had a Piers
HX-40 on it. With the Piers HX-40 my 96' gained
27 RWHP with the HX-40. After taking off the Piers
HX-40 and installing the B-1 my truck only gained
eight (8) more RWHP with the B-1 over Piers HX-40.
Total H.P. gain with the B-1 (over the stock HX-35/12)
was 35 H.P.

I realize my truck is a 12 valve and yours is a 24 valve,
but this should give you some "reference numbers"
anyway!

I guess the stock turbos are tougher than I thought. That's pretty cool.

Dodgeman01, I did not even notice when I posted but there is supposed to be a plus sign next to the 1400 degrees, I will be sure to post and let you know what I think of this turbo. Does anyone know anybody that has ran the Quickspool B1 if so what do they think as far as a all around turbo for towing and racing, I am wondering how long or at what RPM it is going to take it to start and build boost at this altitude. Mike,

At our altitude everything spools slower.

Same here Mike. I will be very interested to see how the KSB1 works for you.

I did ok at truck fest. Ran a best of 14.2, but I went out in the 3rd round. :'(

Quick Disclaimer here: We are authorized resellers of the B1 series, so you may want to take what I say with a grain of salt.

With that in mind, I'll say this: I firmly believe that the B1 series, and the KwikSpool B1 and KwikSpool B1B in particular, are the absolute finest single turbos you can stick on our trucks. For the racing, sled pulling, and drug using crowd, the B1 can handle just about anything you can throw at it. The only B1 I ever saw damaged was one that was boosted to 80 PSI. All that blew out was the bearings. 1 quick bearing replacement later, and the B1 was back on the truck again.

For the towing crowd, the B1 will also tend to keep things cooler than an HX40 for any given power level. Our 01 test truck runs a KSB1, with DD 3.5s, TST PM3 Comp, and a Scotty air system. When towing, cruise EGTs are down to 700-800F, and WOT EGTs with about 14K (trailer and load) will shoot to 1500F until the air starts moving through the system and then the temps will drop to 1300F.

Some of our customers have reported that their KwikSpools were a little slower to spool than PDR40s, others haven't seen a difference. If you have a 5 or 6 speed, the slightly slower spoolup is awful easy to drive around. Automatic runners with tight converters would probably want to consider the KSB1B (wasted out at the 450 HP+ level) as these critters will spool every bit as fast as an HX35/12.

Push Rod,

What level was the PM3 on when towing those loads?

What is the difference between a KSB1 and a KSB1B?

Re:I finally get my B1 Quick Spool put in

The cruise EGTs are at any level on the box. The WOT figures are with the box max'ed out. One thing that is important to note about our 01 test truck is that it is an HO. The SO is going to run probably another 100F hotter or so.

The KSB1 is the B1 compressor, a tighter exhaust housing and the full size B1 turbine wheel. The KSB1B uses the KwikSpool's tight turbine housing with a smaller turbine wheel to aid in spoolup. We do heavily recommend wasting the KSB1B at about the 450 HP level to keep drive pressures under control.
