I finally get my B1 Quick Spool put in
Re:I finally get my B1 Quick Spool put in
Ive been beeting the heck out of my b1 all year & blowing nitrous through it to the tune of 600 horse at almost 55 pounds of boost this turbo is awesome & takes a beeting. My turbo is the standard housing b1 & i dont think it has any more lag than my stock hx40 with the 16cm housing did.The shaft is as tight as it was when it was new.get a b1 you wont be dissappointed.kurt.

Well I got my QSB1 put on today and first test results are that I think that it spools almost as fast as my HX35, but ounce that boost starts to come up it takes off like a rocket. Today it was 93 degrees and after giving it a little break in I got on it a little and boost started to build at about 1500 RPM and rocketed all the way up to about 44psi, It seemed like the power was a little smoother than with my HX35 but pulled twice as hard maybe it was just me but tomorrow is going to be the real test, I am hooking up my 8k lb trailer and taking it over Vail pass I think the summit is about 11k feet to see how it performs, I will let you all know how it goes probably Wendsday . Normal cruise unloaded up I25 my egt's are about 200 - 225 degrees cooler than before, but I will let you know when I get back for comparison. Mike

Re:I finally get my B1 Quick Spool put in
I have run the 01' truck on level 9 WOT and 54 pounds of boost and watched the EGT climb fast to 1500 and then level off and again taper back down below 1300.
I have driven at the altitudes you are at...in B.C. Canada and through CO. A few times I got caught at a low rpm [under 1600] on a steep climb and saw the egt go past 1500... a quick gear down took care of that.
I have towed for at least 50% of the miles I have on this truck. I have worked the truck hard and the combination I have had with the Scotty II, B1KS, massaged set of stage 3's and the Powermax 3 Comp is by far the nicest drug free combo I have had on this truck.
We recently sold the Comp as I am turning the truck back to stock before the 04' arrives yet it still hauls real nice with a Bullydog box and the rest is the same.
Rod can agree that this truck really pulls nice and strong.
The next truck will be BLACK.

At what pressure is the B1b set at? Will you need to oring the head to run one or is it OK to stay with the stock head gasket? I'm looking for quick spool up, I can't stand slow turbo's, and as much reduction in EGT's as possible.

Hey Darrel!
All B1's come from Kurt non-wasted. The KwikSpool housings each have an internal waste (dual or single, depending on your turbo) that can be enabled with a waste from TurboMaster. Ideally, we like seeing external wastes installed.
We don't think that head gaskets really become worrisome until around 50 PSI of boost, although it depends on the fueling box being used. If you're using a box that advances the timing a little more, the head gasket will pop earlier. HO gaskets have been known to let go at around 48 PSI with Edge boxes installed, while SOs seem to handle around 54 - 55 PSI. Lower timing advance gives you a couple more pounds to play with.

You really can't beat the B1 for durability and the new twins.. KS-B1b-EX3, 2" nextgen and BigBrother are, well to say the least, very impressive. I have 2 sets of the B1-B2 twins to be finished tomorrow.
I can't say enough about KwikKurt's turbo's. They're first rate. I bought them as a customer and now as a shop owner I really like them.

Re:I finally get my B1 Quick Spool put in
Well I put it to the test pulling the trailer and as far as my egt's go it really made a improvement, 30lbs of boost pulling a hill 1050 degrees level 1 and 1250 on level 5 this was done at about 9500 feet. On I25 playing around going about 90 mph level 5 1000 to 1050 degrees and on just normal cruise 18 to 20 lbs of boost 750 to 800 degrees, I really like how this turbo starts to spool at a low rpm and this is a drastic improvement than what I had with my HX35 but now I have some bad news, when accelerating with a load at about 25 psi the turbo starts to cavitate pretty severly it almost feels like it is either stalling out the turbo wheel or overspeeding it I am not sure, and this is on a normal excelleration nothing agressive at all, even unloaded ofcoarse it is not nearly as bad but you can definately feel and hear the turbo start to cavitate. ATS is going to try and find a plan of attack to get this fixed, they seem to think that the housing could be to small but they are not sure as of yet I will keep you posted. Mike
