I can never win

Well I was doing ball joints today and the pass side went perfect. The driver side is another story. I started taking it apart and I cant get the bearing off. It feels good inside so I dont want to wreck it. I tried pushing it out from the back with the power steering and still nothing. How else can I get this thing off. Thanks for the help

loosen up the bolts that hold it to the spindle, leave all the other bolts tight, then drive around the block. use a big block (mine is about 5 miles).

Last job I did I accidently pulled one hub apart and had to cut the rest out with a torch. The other side I put some pressure on the back side and went around it with an air chisel. It eventually popped out.

This thing is really stuck. Today I bent a 6 inch 1/2 drive extension using the power steering. So now I have all 4 bolts about half way out with all of them wired so they can fall out so I hope that is will work its way loose in the next few days. Does anyone know anyway else to get it off without destroying the hub or buying a expensive tool. Thanks for the help

On the bearing hub, there is a small notch in the top. It is just enough to get a chisel in there & pound it loose. I spray pb blast on & try punching it out. I've also put the wheel back on & pry under the tire against the concrete to break it loose.

the way i did mine the other day was to heat it up slowly and not too hot to burn the seals but enuff to expand the metal and use a 50ton puller with the pulling bolts in place of 2 wheel studs it was hard but did work good luck

With the bolts loose (not half way out, but a turn or so) drive around the block.
The axle is still bolted tight so the bearing will not be wrecked. The bolts will only be a little loose so they won't break. You may have to drive it more than 5 miles. High speed is not required, bumpy road would be good with a lot of turns.

Umm how did you get a 6 inch extention on the hub using the power stering to press? Try useing a socket or spacer of some sort thats about 3 inches or so long. place it between the axil tube and the ujiont one the hub side. You'll have to turn the hub so that the ujoint cross is parralell with the road, so theres onlys two ways you can have it turned and only one with work. then have your buddy crank the wheel with the engine running. smack the hub on the back side to help it press out. do this on the front and back side untill its out. This always works

This is very hard on the hub assembly. I used this method with some heat and evidently too much force on the puller and jerked the hub completely apart. I had to cut the rest of it out with a torch.

use a socket, a little heat , have someone turn the steering wheel and rap on the outer bearing case with a hammer at the same time. when you put it all back, ( reassemble it) clean the bore out very good and use never seize in it so it comes out easy next time!

My hubs had needed lots of heat. The hub, bearings and u-joints where toast on mine. Next time, I'll just buying new stuff and just cutting out the old stuff. Its a good excuses to upgrade to 3rd gen parts for the bigger brakes, of course then its really easy, just dump everything from the u-joint outwards. If I had to do it again that's what I'm doing.
