I Beat a 2005 Dodge SRT-10!

Yesterday, my son and I attended "Mopar @ the Rock" at "Rockingham Dragway/Speedway"
in Rockingham. N.C. We attended with the N.C. DTW Group of which many of the members
own Dodge Hemi Trucks. However, one of the new members came with a 2005 Dodge Viper
SRT-10. His truck was the single cab version, black and had the six (6) speed transmission.
He also has put headers on it, a cold air intake and "upgraded" the electronics with the
Viper Tuner. Of course we all signed up to drag race including my son (banshee) and our
buddy, Tom Goodall (Goody's 1 Ton). I asked the owner if we could race each and he
said "Yeah!".

I actually raced him twice, but the first run was the best because on the second run he
said he missed the third gear shift. Listed below are the times for the runs:

Race #1

2005 Dodge Viper SRT-10 Pickup My 2002 Dodge CTD

Reaction Time: .734 .148
60 ft. Time : 2.532 1.811
330 ft. Time : 6.358 5.334
1/8 mi. Time : 9.346 8.289
1/8 mi. MPH : 84.53 84.53
1000 ft Time : 11.859 10.925
1/4 mi. E.T. : 13.964 13.260
1/4 mi. MPH : 107.49 97.36

On this first run I knew I beat him bad off the lights, and kept the throttle "to the
floor" almost all the way. However, for a moment I thought he let off or something
so I let off some too, only to look in my side mirror to see him coming very hard!
The time slip shows that too! Anyway, I got back into the throttle and won!
After the race, I met him in the pits and he said "he would go harder if we could
race again." So,.......thinking I was "in for it" I decided to "go for broke!" I left
the line with 25lbs of boost!! And break I did, but later that day! Here are the
times:

2005 Dodge Viper SRT-10 Pickup My 2002 Dodge CTD

Race #2

Reaction Time: .630 .293
60 ft. Time : 2.269 1.802
330 ft. Time : 5.858 5.311
1/8 mi. Time : 9.567 8.245
1/8 mi. MPH : 59.60 84.30
1/4 mi. Time : 17.413 12.90
1/4 mi. MPH : 56.91 105.15

My time of 12.90@ 105.15 is the fastest time I have run with my 2002! However,
after over fifty (50) drag race launches I broke my output shaft later in the afternoon
while getting ready to run a Dodge Hemi Truck! But, the cost was worth it to beat
that Dodge Viper Truck!

I happened to be in the staging area to race next during both of these runs and can attest that the SRT-10 got smoked... literally . He looked a little shocked in the pits after the first race, too. I never got to try him myself, tho

I missed the beginnings of the first two races because I lined up on the track infront of John_P but when I was rounding the end of the "taxi way" I saw his trying flying. It was amazing seeing him cross the line and then the Viper truck behind him. I opted not to race any more so I sat in the stands to cheer the old smelly diesels on. As I was sitting in the stands some of the spectators were saying they wanted to see the diesels run again. As soon as the dakotas were done, John_P lined up for the last time, and it was set to be a good run, the other gentleman had a Hemi 1/2 ton running some pretty good times with I think a 150 shot of the cold stuff. John_P lined up, got his boost up then Bam!!! the truck surged ahead for a couple feet and that was it. Normal people would have been freaking out, but John_P was as calm as could be, he has told me from day one of owning my truck, if you modify your truck be prepared for something breaking. I would have been freaking out
It was awesome seeing the reactions of the people with John_P beating the Viper truck. I just wish I could have scene the 12.9 et launch. I can't imagine, my heart was pumping on my 10 lb boost launch.
I did get to see Banshee going through the gears on his 6 speed when I was in the stands watching the final run for John_P, unreal to get the times he did shifting that beast. These trucks are amazing.

Great job John!!! (I am glad I didn't have to line up next to him. )

That don't surprise me knowing JohnP.
I can only imagine what the Red Ram Rocket would have done to the SRT.

Hey JohnP, you didn't send me the e-mail to send you the Williamsburg Dodge pic yet.

Thanks for all the nice comments!

--------------
Mcmopar:

Heh buddy! The shaft that broke was just stock. I have an ATS Billet Input Shaft, but
when I built the transmission in the 02' Clint was out of the ATS Billet Output Shafts.
My extended Dodge warranty should cover the break but if not, we will probably
just do it ourselves. The outputs aren't bad to change as they are right on the
tailshaft housing. I am just glad it wasn't the input! You guys know the
saying; "If you want to play you are going to pay!" LOL!! I just did one to many
25lb. launches with that stock output!

Joel, thanks for the reminder on that picture! I will get up with Johnner today or
tomorrow and send you his address. Thanks again!

Tx Diesel 007:

If you go will go over to the "Dodge Truck World Website" (North Carolina Chapter
Section) I believe DTW Member "Unruly" is going to post the video there. He did
tape it! If not, I should have a DVD from him soon and I will try to get "banshee"
to help me post it for you guys!. I can see your point on wanting to "see it"
believe me! I have already had a couple of my buddies this morning say "No
way you beat a Viper Truck!" When I told one guy he said; "Man, I guess that
guy doesn't know how to drive the truck!"
