HY35 Question

Is there any possible way to plug the wastegate on a HY35 turbo? My guess is no but I'm just curious.

Yes! or at least achieve the same results.
Put a turnbuckle on it and that will shut it down from ever opening!
For more info...search..."turnbuckle".

Careful.... Don't want and will loose HP over about 32-33 psi boost on an HY-35. With a Comp you could be real close..if not higher

If the hook is giving you the 35 psi you need, any more boost on the HY usually results in pretty short life and you should put some $$$ aside for the replacement..

I am only seeing 22 psi tops. Checked all intercooler lines and did pressure test on inlet...All holding pressure and no leaks anywhere...Just can't get anymore than 22 out of her...Any ideas anyone?????

I've never been a fan of the J-Hooks...but never used one either. Do the turnbuckle....cost about $5.00 and takes maybe 1/2 hr to hook up!

That will let you know if you have a problem elsewhere because it eliminates the wastegate opening at all! JMO

I am pretty sure I have it on correctly...Followed all directions...It kinda seemed idiot proof...Im wondering if maybe I'm running it too dry on fuel because after all more fuel does = more boost in theory correct? If my lift pump is not up to par maybe my trouble lies there.

You should see more boost than that with a comp. You can try the turnbuckle and/ or check for boost leaks. Also check for codes, maybe its the IP taking a dive. Mileage good?

I'm getting between 15.6-16.8 mpg in the city. Why do you think the IP would be an issue?

If the IP is going bad it won't inject the full fuel even though it's ordered to do so.

Did you check that you tapped the correct wire?
What EGTs do you get when running at 22 psi?

I can imagine that your J-hook is either not working correctly (then you'd see crispy EGTs) or you simply don't have the fuel (EGTs not out of range) to spool to more than 22 psi.
These 2 variants would need 2 different branches of the troubleshooting tree.

I believe I remember spooling to 40 psi (only once) with a turn buckle, EZ, and 80 hp injectors.... maybe 325 hp!
RTDHSP should be close to that... No?

The sound of an HY-35 at 40 psi is almost as disconcerting as the expansion induced EGT's.

I've smacked 40psi with just my comp and a turnbuckle! Usually the highest I can get is 35psi which is about where it should be.

I think I'm gonna scrap the BD J-Hook and build my own $3.00 jobbie and see what I get then. Thanks for the answers guys.
