JR is right. I am extremely happy with mine. I dont mind the small lag, cause when she spools the truck feels like its going to take off. The tires start to want to break loose, and that exhaust gets that sweet high RPM cackle! And did I mention BIG POWER!! I drive the truck everyday in traffic and the freeway. IMO the lag is a small trade off for the BIG power. Thanks again J.R

What is the compressor outlet size on these? Are they the same as the 35's and 40's or are they the HX55's with the 4" compressor outlet? What kind of boost are these capable of?

Nick,

The HX55 hybrid is a drop in replacement for a HX40. It can support up to 70 psi but I DO NOT condone such boost pressures. They will live long lives at 45psi. It takes quite a bit of fuel to make those kinds of boost pressures.

They will bolt up right into the place of a '35 or '40.

They use a standard HX-40 4" Downpipe, Standard Exhaust Manifold Gasket, are internally Wastegated, and wil bolt right up to the cold side piping.

Some ingenuity MIGHT be required to line of the cold side piping, with the compressor outlet. As you can see by the pics, the '55 is a smidgen larger than the '35's.

It takes alot of fuel to power these turbo's. (Not to spool, but to achieve all the boost they are capable of)

You've seen, and heard of other turbo's runing ALOT of boost, with very little fuel. This turbo, will require ALOT of fuel to run over 55PSI. I'd dare say you'd be pushing close to or over 575RWHP at that boost level. These turbo's WILL spool in midrange,, and it is not a big deal to get them spooling, but to get them really spinning and make big Boost numbers, takes a fair amount of fuel.

This is a great turbo for guys looking for ~500-550RWHP w/o having to tear into the top-end.

Jesse,

Let's see here....14cm, 16cm, 18cm and *censored*.

With that being said(typed) most people will get the 16cm. The 14 cm is a different price.(higher$)

For special applications, just let me, or J.R. know about it, and we can work with you.

The 14, 16, and 18 housings are not the only housings available to put on the turbo, and we can also play with the exhaust wheel, intake wheel, and compressor housing.

One reason why this turbo runs much better than even the HX-40, is because, when this turbo is up on boost, it's not restricting the exhaust.

Your truck will have a different tone when on boost. It should have a growl out the exhaust, and should have a deeper tone under the hood. On my twin truck, I noticed the '55 sounded exactly how a big turbo should.
With a '40 as a top turbo, it had good bottom end, but by 3,000RPM,, it was all done with, and all I had to gain by revving higher was EGT.
Now, with the '55, it has a litttle less power at 2,000RPM (I'm being completely honest here), but pulls just as well at 2,200 to 3,000RPM, but,,, after 3,000RPM, the truck starts to really scream, and pulls very hard to 3,800RPM.

My injection pump setup, helps my truck pull very hard in high RPM, but the turbo plays a big part with making HP and TQ in the upper RPM band. You can have all the fuel your pump is capable, but if you don't have the air,, you can't make the power.

What housing would you guys recommend with Mach 3's on my truck, 14cm or 16cm? Towing is not an issue buy good spool and good top end cooling are a must. Thanks

We be installed guys.

It's one tight mo'fo.

Initial spooling is slower & later than the stock HX40-16 ... but got to give it some time. I'm taking it to about 20psi for now. Got to put some miles on it.

It'll be very interesting to see how it operates @ - sea level Friday, Sat & Sunday. It's a 5 or 600 mile round trip ... should tell a lot.

It's definately quieter than the 40. The truck sounds lots quieter than before. Maybe the 40 was rattling.

I would say a 14 would provide good spooling, and good cooling.

The '55 will run a bit hotter than a standard '40 when cruising, but it will keep EGT's down when you are in it.

Forrest,, Any new news?
