While I'm not arguing about the MAP, my pyro shows lower EGT's at 35psi than at 25psi...at least way back when I ran a stocker. Now, above 35psi, temps started to increase as I turned up the boost!

While it may be off it's MAP, maybe the aftercooler in these trucks are able to account for the extra heat to that point?? I'm no engineer or physicist, but at least that's what I've seen from my experiences with a few trucks!

The cooler definately does help. But when you are sending in a denser cooler charge into the CAC, then you gain even more. Dont get me wrong here, lots of people are running that HX and HY35 in the mid 30s with no problems. They are just leaving something on the table. A more efficient turbo is going to maximize what you have there.

I don't disagree...

I also think that the Super B turbo you guys at BD have developed is probably the best solution for a mildly BOMBed Cummins. On a 12v at 350hp, it drives like stock, but cools almost as well as a 62mm charger. I have one here now that I'm going to test against a 62mm S300 on my '95...I really liked it the first time I ran one, but I wanna try it again!

I knew it wouldn't "work" but I was hoping it would get me by for a few days. It should have, but that charger had other problems. Thecasting was weak or something!

I know what you mean Chris... Work wasn't quite the right word. No way a stock turbo would WORK on your 95.

It would now...but that was well over 100hp ago

Too bad a stocker will never live under my hoods again...after the HX on the 98 leaves of course. Stock turbos are fine when a truck is THAT stock!

Since this is "turbo talk" I have a question for you. I'm looking at a different housing for my stock HX35W. Either a 14cm 'gated, or a 16cm non'gated. I know the 16cm is way less money, and will require lifting my foot to control egt's, which I have to do now anyway. As I understand it, the bigger housing allows better airflow through the motor, and a little more efficient boost. Hopefully cooling the egt's as well. I already have the 4" downpipe, and the bhaf.
My question; which one would you guys reccomend?
Thanks.

The 16 you'd have less EGT problems with, but over boosting and over speeding would be the bigger issue. It would also be laggier, but by how much, I don't know. I'd say stay with the gated housing, but I'm still a newb with it all.

That depends on what your plans are afterwards...if you're gonna keep upgrading, you're gonna need a bigger charger later on, go with the 16, it's cheaper.

If you think you're almost done, go with the Gated 14...it will do a better job!
Also, if you go with the 14, drill out the wastegate holes, and make it wastegate all 6 cylinders...do a search for "Wastegate" and look for posts made by "Wannadiesel"

Good Luck,
Chris
