My turbo guy quoted me $159 for a new hx40 compressor and required machining on my compressor housing, and $69 to rebalance everything. I can do the overhaul kit myself ($65 on ebay). I have the banks quickturbo turbine housing on my hx35 now. Is this upgrade worth the money I'll have in it or should I go a little bigger? Eventually I'll probably ditch the banks box and just go with a smarty and injectors.

 

I'm gonna say no. The problem with the stock turbo is that the hot side is too small and VERY restrictive.

I'd save the money towards a full replacement turbo-- like an HTB2 or something.

I've seen too many shafts break on the HX-40 hybrids.
