you can get a adjustable boost elbow, a j hook or just unhook it all together, a boost elbow would be best, if you get over 35 psi you are out of the turbos efficiency range. DD

On the HX it already has a external wastegate with a rubber hose can't I just clamp the hose or twist the bar on the HX.

Loosen the jam nut and turn rod end counter clockwise(to make the rod longer)if it doesnt have a jam nut you have to drill the 3 crimps, take the rod end off, install a jam nut, reinstall the rod end and set your boost. Its easy and its free.

to get more boost you need to keep the waste gate from opening

The only to keep it from opening is to plug the hose , weld it shut or use a j-hook. You can adjust the rod to get the boost(with in reason) you want and still have your wastegate work.

Shorten the rod for more boost, but a boost elbow is by far easiest way to control boost at 35 psi. Just drill and tap your current brass elbow with a small set screw to limit boost "signal"=air pressure going to actuator bulb diaphram that pushes rod and opens wastegate.

You will need a small bleed off orifice after the set screw, otherwise, it will take longer to open the wastegate, but will still open at the same pressure.

Most would attach a boost elbow, which is fairly cheap also.

If the rod is adjusted, it should be shortened. This will increase the tension on the waste gate making it harder to open.

Such an easy question and so many different answers. Here are some options:

Pull the elbow and use a 1/8 inch npt plug
block off the line
replace your elbow with an adjustable line
install a manual boost controller in the line

Ph4tty, you missed one:

Weld the wastegate shut!

Not a good option if you plan on lots of fuel and long turbo life.
