Question How much hp/tq does a Smarty add???

I tried doing a search and saw plenty of positive things about the Smarty, but I was just curious as to how much power it adds. Has anyone done a before & after on the dyno with a Smarty? What could I expect by adding a Smarty to my current combo..... ....besides a toasted stock clutch...

Big response on the bottom end.

A dyno run will typically show 60+hp, and 175 lb-ft gain or so.

But there's a lot more to it than dyno power. Test drive one and compare it to an EZ or any other timing box-- you'll see how different it is.

The bottom end response of the Smarty is simply monstrous.

The numbers are about what Hohn said. Give or take a few, it depends a little upon the truck / dyno.

The numbers alone do no justice to Smarty though.

To get the thing into the right perspective. A STOCK engine develops it's highest
Hp @ 2.7K Rpm. Let's say 230 ponnies. Torque remains somewhat stable arround 480 from 2K to 2K7 Rpm.

With Smarty. @ 2K Rpm the same engine does 240 Hp and 630 Ftlb.
( With odd numbered softwares, the ones with the timing )
The same power is availabel 7-800 Rpm SOONER.

Responsivness is what really matters!

Helps?

Not that you want to wait over a week, but I'm supposed to get on the dyno on the 29th and should be able to get some numbers with some different combo's.

what does the smarty offer to trucks that already run a timing and fuel box, like say a edge drag comp? What are typical gains to something like this? You have to be able to run the smarty without its timing advance somehow right?

the even numbered softwares do not have additional timing... others will chime in with their comp/smarty results, IIRC, they like the combo.

Marco, since I have a Bully Dog Torque Dog on my 2001 HO 3500 DRW 6 spd. Would the Smarty be something that would be beneficial to partner with the Torque Dog? Or should the Torque Dog be removed if the Smarty were to be used? Thanks for any info. The next few months I might be looking to improve what I have recently done to the Cummins. Dondi

Marco has designed the smarty to work in conjunction with any of the aftermarket boxes, you just use odd settings with fuel only boxes and even with fuel/timing boxes. The thing is that a lot of folks turn their boxes off or remove and sell them after trying the smarty

Not exactly a before/After test....but dynoed from an EZ/TST stack to a Smarty/TST stack. Not scientific for a few reasons...but had enough comparable data from others to say there is 10 HP more than I expected... that I can't account for.

As said...not scientific results, by any means. And 10 hp difference is easily explained away by different time of day, etc...... but based on better performance from Smarty over EZ....10 hp over an EZ sounds about right??

I'm sure someone will do a back to back... on a stock truck, one of these days.

Thumbs up

Thanks for all the replys guys! Everybody seems to have good things to say about the Smarty!
My truck seems a little slow till it gets some boost built up. Judging by the few mods that I have in my sig, do you think the Smarty would wake it up?

Based on reports from those that have tried my Smarty (5 sp and have 60-100 hp already added).... it will feel twice as responsive as the previous mods!!
