How much boost on a 98.5?

The only mod I have is edge juice and i've only taken it up to #3. When I do, I only see about 18psi. On the stock setting I see 16psi.
Until I fix my trans, I don't want to take it past #3.
Is that about right?

I'm assuming that the Edge Juice has a boost fooler function like my Edge EZ - please correct me if I'm wrong. If so, have you installed a boost elbow on your turbocharger?

No! Is that worth doing?
I saw another thread about turnbuckles on the wastegate.
I'll check it out.

I see your truck is a auto so you wont be able to put the elbow on you will have to use a turnbuckle or j hook i believe if you search with either of those for a key word you will find all you need. Here is a decent place that has gobs of factory numbers.

You need to put the boost elbow in.It will run a lot more boost than 16psi or 18psi.On my 5speed truck with the boost elbow and on the stock setting, it will still run 22psi easily.

Thats for trucks running the HY35, which started in 01. 98 auto will have the HX.

Check for boost leaks. 18 sounds low, even for stock. Also, try seeing if your wastegate is partially stuck open. What are you EGTs? Before I did anything to my truck, I could get up to 24-25 psi. Whether thats discrepancies between your MAP sensor and my boost sensor, your guess is good as mine.

Be sure to put that brass boost elbow on that turbo, the one that connects to the blue tube and actuates/open the wastegate. When the wastegate is open, it bypasses exhaust/ reroutes exhaust so it does not use full exhaust flow to turn the turbine. Your older worn wastegate could be opening at 18 psi and not the stock 21 ish. All that the little elbow does is blocks/ restricts airflow in the blue tube which does not allow sufficient psi to open/actuate the wastegate. Thus the wastegate bladder/actuater only has a few psi pressing on it and so it stays shut when in reality, the compressor side could be pushing 30 + psi.

That said, if you put in larger injectors in the future, you will want to then replace that brass elbow again, this time with an adjustable one with an allen head set screw. You adjust them by screwing in the allen screw to only allow air past them when say 35 psi is being realized on the compressor/intercooler/intake horn side. That will in effect re enable the wastegate when you are making 35 psi of boost. Big sticks and chips make lots of exhaust to drive the exhaust turbine and can overspeed the whole setup if the wastegate cannot open to bypass. Over speeded turbos go boom! Plus, more than 35psi is not cool useable air, it is really hot compressed air. Bigger turbos can make cool useable air at more than 35psi but a stock HX 35 has too small of a compressor to make good air past 35psi.

Whew!

I had a similar problem when I installed my 150hp injectors and smarty. I would only get slightly over 20 psi even with and adjustable elbow. I now have it completely blocked off with a pipe plug and I can get up to about 34 psi now.
