How to get started

Im pretty new to the site and dont really have any mods on my truck yet b/c of conservation of funds $ (college student). I dont pull anything worth mentioning. Im just wanting to add hp and torque for the fun of it (and to whoop up on my bud's powerstroke). Im trying to watch my budget, and dont know what route to take. Exhaust, edge (ez or comp?), injectors (size?), and so on are some future mods. Dont really know what to do 1st and save my wallet at the same time. Any help would be great.

I would start first with gages and an EZ or the Comp if you plan on upgrading you clutch real soon, then injectors after the new clutch.

Re:How to get started

A very wise man told me once never start because if you do you can never go back and you will always want more. The bad thing is don't think small because after you install a small power box you will want more then you buy a bigger box,you get a small set of injectors then you will want a bigger set and a bigger turbo to work with the larger injectors.I hope you see were this is going because once you start you can't stop I know because I have tried and a good support group helps. ;D

Re:How to get started

Here's what I wish I had done when I started to modify my truck.

1 - Edge Comp Box - Don't tap the pump wire yet. $4-500 used

2- Gages, Pyro, Fuel Pressure, Boost/Tranny you decide $300-400

3 - Clutch plan your clutch with your power level of injectors. Depending on transmission, cost varies signifigantly

**Now tap the pump wire and grin!!!

4 - Injectors - You can buy moderate to extreme injectors. RV275's or DD2's are good choices and easily found.

And add some air. A BHAF is inexpensive and works great.
**FYI BHAF= Big Honkin Air Filter. $40

5- Exhaust if needed, most people don't need huge exhaust but it does make your truck look tough and gives a different sound. Price??

By the time you've done all this you'll know enough about what you need to have on your truck next. Part of the fun of these trucks is the building of your own beast.

Re:How to get started

If I do decide to get started with an Edge, which one should i get, the EZ or Comp? Keep in mind, i wont be towing much of anything, just wanted for the extra power. I have an '01 4x4 6-speed HO w/ 54k miles on it. Not sure what tranny is in it though? Will it hold up, along w/ the clutch, with an Edge and just an Edge? Ive heard it will and some say it wont, im not sure. Also, some say gauges arent needed with just an Edge. Not too sure about that one either. Thanks for all the help.

Without a doubt, the most bang for the buck starting out is an Edge EZ or similar box. ;D

Re:How to get started

Buy an Edge Drag Comp. Scotty2, good exhaust (for the sound) Then some nice clutch when funds allow, (be ready to hook up the wire then) and when the sensation wears off just take some EDMs (Mach3) and a turbo.

Well, yes gauges first, so you can see whether everything is up to par or not.

Just my 2c.... well better take them back since I need some funding for necessary accessories ;D
