It is really easy. The only "special tool" that I can think of would be a torque wrench. There are some great instructions that were put out by Diesel Dynamics. I no longer have mine, but a search will locate them if no one else sees this and posts them.

special tools that help...small hands maybe

the back two injectors can be a little tricky to get to, and even more so re-installing the back two nuts on the injector line can be difficult...my last injector swap took 2 hours start to finish and it was only my second time doing it. took me 30 minutes out of that time to get those back two retaining nuts started into the block, when i was done i touched the key and it fired up immediately

I just changed mine out for the first time about a month ago. If you get a good set of instructions(which I have If you want them) the install is not very difficult. Being your first time figure on about a good 3 hours start to finish. You will need a torque wrench and set of bent nose pliers and maybe a little bit of grease to get the copper washer to stay on while dropping the injectors in place. Be ready for some very tight nuts and bolts. The injector line nuts will be very tight and so will the lifting block bolts. I have a set of Diesel Dynamics 150 hp injectors and I love them. The truck runs on stage 1 now like it used to on stage 5(if not better).

The rear injectors can be a pain. Seems like I used a crows foot on the injector line and it made it a little easier. Only other advice I have is put some cardboard up in front of your radiator and coolers to help keep those stupid fins straight. Cause they are a pain to go back through and straighten after you have successfuly jabbed your knee through them half a dozen times.

There has to be a better design for a radiator!

I've got the DD instructions in PDF form. If anyone wants 'em, PM me your email address, I will send them.

As a heads up, you can thread in the intake horn bolts into the injector bodies. I used a larger socket on the bolt as a slide hammer to dislodge the injector. You have to use a 3/4 wrench to remove the nut at the end of the injectors lines. The trickest part is to pull the tube that goes from the injector line to the injection thats inside the head to slide down about a 1/4 inch. If you don't do that you will nick up your injector body and tube and you will have a fuel leak inside your head. I wiggle the bolt around and the tube ususally slides out enough for you to remove the injector with light force. Use new injector washers and use light grease to hold the washer on. You have to remove a few rocker arms to get at the injector. You will also have to bleed your injector lines after the injector installation. To be honest, it sound difficult but its actually pretty easy job
