shouldnt the impeller speed to make 30 lbs. of boost with the 12cm housing be the same to make 30 lbs. of boost with the 18cm housing? just less TIP. in other words, 30 lbs. of boost is 30 lbs. of boost and the compressor is what creates that boost, and since nothing was changed on the compressor side it still should spin the same RPM to create X lbs. of boost no matter what size housing is on it.

you could put a 26cm housing on and make 30 lbs. of boost, but the RPM of the compressor should be the same. the housing should determine how fast it spools up and the amount of TIP.

does this make any sense?

Well the old turbo spent much of its time in waste gate, might make a difference, don't know. Also I wonder if the intake housing on the commercial model is designed different.
