As far as being legal, you don't need a muffler on a turbo diesel. I also read (on here) that the exhaust can exit behind or above the passenger compartment. Honestly I'm not to worried. Legal or not I'm going to be runnin' it for awhile.

Honestly the stack didn't take too much time or money. Just need a welder, some tubing, and a few junkyard parts.

Here are some more pics with the final setup.

looks good! I would take it down a few inches, but that's just me. Keep us posted if you get into any trouble with it. If no trouble then I may try to run it

Thats a pretty sweet set-up man. I always wondered how the hood would open with a hood stack, now I know. Nice craftsmanship.

As far as how it runs, I've noticed a few small things which may or may not be in my head. Yes, it runs a bit cooler. 70mph on the highway I was around 675°F or so, now its just a smidge above 600°F. It can't get nearly as much smoke on low boost fueling, so that would lead me to believe its spooling up faster. Also, for some reason I used to top out the HX-35 at 36psi but I cant get it above 34psi for the life of me.

The more I think about it the more I may drop an inch or two off the top... time will tell.

And madhat, GO FOR IT! I CANT get over how awesome this CTD sounds. Turbo is heavenly and sings like no other, and the sound between shifts is unreal. Cant tell you enough how great it sounds.

BTW I have passed about a dozen cops, even stopped right next to one at a light, not one so much as looked my way. I just really think they don't care that much. I'd bet they'd rather let it go than spend the time writing the ticket.

Looks radical, yet I still find myself troubled by it's phallic nature...

I can only imagine what it would sound like with my turbo... I'll tell ya what... Let me find a 3rd gen hood like you did in the junk yard, and I'll think about it. I'd want the stack to be a lot higher, tho...
