Holley Blue?

Where do you find the Holley Blue Fuel Pump and what exactly am I looking for? I am new to the diesel ownership so I could use a little help. Thanks.

I bought mine from NAPA $140, comes with the regulator. I still have to put my regular on, 27 psi at idle is too much.

Dont mean to hijack your post Moaggie, but on the topic of the Holley Blue;

I'm considering ordering one of these from Summit myself, just to have on hand in case of an LP failure.

First Question: Does Summit warrant this pump for a year like NAPA will ?

Second: It seems the majority of CTD owners are installing this pump on the frame, between the tank, and the stock LP. Are most of you simply running both pumps (stock LP, and holley blue), or are you bypassing the LP ?

If a person was to run both pumps,....where would the best place be to tie into power for the Holley blue ? Otherwise I assume extending the stock LP wiring harness down to the Holley Blue ?

Thanks for any insight.

I would run the holly blue by itself, back by the tank (by pass the stock pump). I would power it with a relay triggered off the stock harness (don't power it with the stock harness alone as its power comes from the ECM). I would upgrade all the line/banjo fittings between the tank and VP44.

thats just me, other might argue that its okay to use the stock harness for power but its not a chance I would take.

JR2 is right. Eliminate the stock lift pump. I put my Holley down on the frame rail down closer to the tank. I made a bottom tank pickup and used 1/2" swagelock tubing, and special strainer I got from the plant. Electrically, I ran mine powered right off of the 'ignition' key , though some say this could be dangerous in a wreck, since the stock circuit shuts off the fuel pump if the air-bag goes off.... I am not too concerned about it.... I noticed that I got a code if I left the stock lift pump unplugged, so I just plugged it in. Its sitting there with no fuel lines to it, no fuel in it and its running keeping the ECM happy!!!!! Pretty crude, but screw it, I dont care if it ruins itself, I dont need it... ITs been like this for 2 years by the way!!! lol .... The relay, guys use in that circuit probably is enough of a draw to keep the ECM happy, and thats why they dont get the code. All in all, the relay way is probably better.

There are some pictures of my install in my photo gallery.

I upgraded the banjo bolts and still use the original lift pump. I want two pumps, being some of my trips are cross country. It will take both pumps to fail, before Im on the side of the road because of no fuel pressure. I also added a perma cool filter / water seperator before everything.

Thanks for the information.

Not 100% clear on the power source, are most of you adding a relay to run the Holly, or are you running piggyback off of an existing relay ?

How are others solving the dilema of the ECM code thrown by bypassing the stock pump ?

I've noticed many of you have upgraded "banjo bolts"....I gather that these are the special fitting connecting the lines to the pump, filter, ect? (I have yet to tear into this). Where would you advise getting alternative fittings ? I've heard several mention the Vulcan kit? Did some digging and found this kit to be pretty pricey.

I'm not even sure if I have a problem as of yet,.....my FP guage should arrive within the next day or two. I'll install and take it from there. Just bought this truck, and so far have seen none of the alleged symptoms of a pump failure, just want to be ready for anything that might come around. I've inspeceted my current system, and believe all of my fuel system components are original. (The truck has 104,000 miles on it) The exterior of the stock LP is quite corroded.

I'm hoping I've got a good pump.....

Do the Holley's pull more amps than the Carter?

Concerning modifying banjo's, I'm a little worried about mine breaking when I replace them since I modified mine...I like Vulcanweld's kit and Scotty's fittings.

does anybody use anything else besides a holley or a fass? a fass is out of the question for me and i was just wondering what other kind (if any) of fuel pump yall ran. How necessary is it to upgrade the banjo bolts? i dont think that ill bypass the lift pump. if i need to upgrade the bolts, where do i get em? autozone? thanks

I'm using a Carter 4601HP on the frame rail in front of the fuel tank as my only fuel pump. I drilled and radiused the holes in the banjo bolts and inlets to the banjo fittings on the fuel filter & VP and I get 9psi at WOT on 5x5. Before the banjo mods, I was getting 7psi WOT on 5x5.

I'll need even more fuel flow to keep the pressure up when I put in injectors like yours so I'll go with better fittings and get rid of the banjos. Scotty & Vulcan makes what I need. I'm thinking you need'em now as well as a fuel pressure gauge. Vulcan makes a complete wiring & plumbing kit to relocate your lift pump to the frame in front of the fuel tank...I wish I'd went with it instead of cutting, butt splice, solder, double heat shrink insulating my pump wiring under the truck and I'd have good fuel fittings too.
