High Perf Second Gen

I know this has been covered before in pieces, but I have a friend with a 2nd gen stocker who want's a step by step shopping list to step up the performance of his 5 speed truck. I think I could help him pretty well if he had a 1st gen....

Thanks!
Mark

12V:

#10 plate
191 DVs
4K GSK
370 Injectors
Piers twins

That should be enough to get him started. He MIGHT need an upgraded trans to hold this power level

JLH

EDIT: fixed doofus mistakes

Dual disk clutch from South Bend
1 3/8" input upgrade from South bend also for the NV4500

That ought to do him quite well

what year truck is it? the later pumps make more power and will require more clutch/turbo for given fueling.

I'm happy w/ my combo... sure wish I could afford twins and a dual disk clutch, but I'm still walking away from lots of other modded diesel trucks on the highway.

if you want to rev it to 4k, then yes, 60# intake and exhaust springs!!!

I've got a 4k GSK... never installed the valvesprings. I shift at 3400-3500.

From what I understand at 4,000 rpm the CTD B develops a destructive harmonic issue that can cause catastrophic failure.

I've accidently hit 4k RPM before w/ stock valvesprings... no damage.

the problem w/ high RPM is the valvesprings aren't strong enough to close the valves quick enough, and the valve and piston try to occupy the same space... then bad stuff happens.

I think it's sustained 4,000 rpm that blows them up, even with the 60* valve springs.

never heard of that before... the big boys wind them to 4k++ quite often. (high HP drag racers and pullers)

a 3k kit on a 215 pump will rev to 3400-3500... on a 160-180 pump, go w/ the 4k GSK and just watch the tach... probably won't go any higher than 3400...

I've got a 4K GSK on a 215 pump. been on there for ~70k miles. stock valvesprings have ~235k miles on them. just watch the tach.

His 2nd gen is a 1995. So, a plate, a spring, what else?
