High EGT and no power!!!!!
ok i had Dave Georand do a trans and convertor for me. now with an 8,000 pound trailer and a 3,500 pound load this is what my truck does.
if i floor the truck at a dead stop with my trailer attached the truck max's out @ 2,350 rpm through out the gears until the OD kicks in and then it drops. and the Exhaust temps goes to 1400 degrees and stays there while floored and the boost gauge goes to about 33lbs of boost and holds there until the RPM comes down when the OD kicks in.
the truck just seems like it has no power. once it hits that 2,350 rpm its like flat on its face and just slowly cruises up to speed.
when i talked to dave before about this he said that was all the RPM i would be able to get out of it due to the stator they put in the trans. he said any RPM over that is just wasted and does no good.
what do u guys think.
thanks,
joe

Im confused. Mine shifts between 2800 and 3000 at WOT from 1st to 2nd, and 2nd to 3rd. It shifts about 2600rpm from 3rd to 4th at WOT if I dont use the overdrive off button. You need a governor spring kit. Your EGT's shouldnt be high with no power though... You have other problems I believe. Didnt you say your EGT's were a little over 1k degrees cruising in another thread? That is too high. Mine run 600* cruising at 60 on flat ground with no head wind. 900* at the most.

My buddy's 95 12v with a DTT shifts at 2500-2600. That's how the builder set it up. And that's with a 3k kit. Builder told him that his particular truck just wasn't making power over that and putting more stress on parts pulling over 2500rpm.

my goerend trans gives me power all the way in to 3000 plus sounds like shift points in valve body, sometimes you have to adjust them even when they come from goerend i had to

it has a different stator in it than stock. he showed me the difference in the two when i was at the shop. he said i would only get 2300-2500 out of it make no matter what. even if i put a 3k or 4k kit in the pump.
but i took it out again tonight. floor it and the Exhaust temp goes up to 1400 and the boost goes to 33 psi and stays there and the tach stays at 2300-2350 until u hit 55-60 mph then it goes up to 2500 and then shifts into OD and then the TQ locks up.
i mean no matter what i floor it and it stays at 2350 and thats it.
i will call and talk to dave tomm about it and see what he has to say.
my other 97 dodge diesel. has an ATS tranny in it and when i floored the truck holy cow did it hook up and pull my trailer like nothing even in the mountains. until after only 350 miles after i bought it from the dealer the tranny went out.

Dave is right, his transmissions shift at lower rpms than stock, I had it on my 3500 and was awesome.
I think you might have to adjust your injection to get more/less power, smoke, EGT, etc., looks like you are basically stock with the exception of "marine timing" (huh??), your 3:55 combined to 285 tires increased your ratio a whole lot more, that makes very hard to tow with an auto, that's why Dodge installs 4:10s.
The power curve of your motor goes flat after 2300rpm, so there is no need to even go past that.
Try to shift gears manually to see if it goes past the 2350, but untill you increase your power there is not much to do, a rebuilt transmission doesn't make the truck more powerful.

i am putting new tires on my truck in a week. so your saying the stock size would be better for towing than these taller tires?? how come??
yea my truck is basically stock except for the following:
5" straight pipe exhaust
Heavy duty Exhaust valves for the exhaust brake
new stock injector tips
marine timing
banks power pac OttoMindŽ fuel-calibration plate (all the way forward)
star wheel is almost turned all the way forward also
pump was supposedly turned up by shop
bottom of air box holes drilled in it
banks power pac Quick-TurboŽ assembly
the turbo is also rebuilt
i have to install the twin ram intake yet. as when we did we found it was warped really bad and leaked air like crazy so we sent it back and now i have the other one and need to get it on.
what other mods would be a good idea for towing and better MPG?? towing i get anywhere from 8-12 mpg. and not towing i get basically 12-14 mpg and thats it.

would a twin turbo set-up make a difference?? i pull a 45' fully enclosed trailer. it wieghts 6,500-7,000 lbs empty. and the most ever going in it would be no more than 10,000 lbs. i also pull my 32' 5th wheel camper.
i am getting bigger fuel lines and fittings from Vulcan Performance to put on the truck also.
