Lightbulb High Capacity Auto Trans Cooler

Picking up a '98 Cummins with auto.. What all is out there as far as a HIGH CAPACITY transmission cooler?

I'll be drag racing, towing, & sled pulling.
I know cooling isn't the only thing I'll need to worry about, but I'll upgrade the stock cooler if needed.

Thanks!

Surprisingly cooling is one of the least problematic areas to these trucks. The stock systems are far more efficient than they actually have to be, so unless you are towing heavy a lot in overdrive, you shouldn't need anything else.

I did put on one of the oversize pan on the tranny to add more cool fluid to it, but beyond that the truck maintains its cool quite well.

How about the guys with da twins? I had to take off my preheater/cooler for the twins, and I'm worried about summer coming up. I've got guages, so I'll guess I'll just keep an eye on them. But I think I'm gonna need a bigger cooler.

I'm looking at the possibility of needing a small electric fan to give the stock cooler a little more airflow in traffic, but that's all.

Only problem I have run into is reverse load. When backing a load up. Live full time in a 5ver and tranny will overheat some in backup conditions with load. I just stop in neutral and let it cool some. Also wanting to put a fan on existing cooler for airflow in traffic and reverse.

Something like shown in link above.

It's not that easy to find a cooler sized for the 47RE since it uses 1/2" lines - most coolers are 5/16" or 3/8". On our previous V-10/47RE Ram 3500 I finally found a B&M Supercooler that had 1/2" NPT ports such that I could use a 1/2" NPT to 1/2" barbed hose adapter, then use Aeroquip high temperature hydraulic hose to plumb the cooler.

If your drag racing and pulling, you will need an upgraded tranny. With a DDT tranny..you won't need anything else. Have no expirience with the other brands but suspect they run just as cool. I made 3, 1/4 mile passes back to back, on a 90*+ day and never got ATF over 170*.

I'll probably do a BUILDUP of a 47RE using DTT parts..

I'm looking to cool a mildly modified tranny though. (Transgo & mojave green converter)
