Help, new lift pump installed and only 8psi
I just installed my new carter 4601HP and it runs but it only puts out 8 psi at idle and i took it for a little drive and it will drop to 6 but i never hammered on it. is this pump shot already, for power I just cut the extension that came with the vulcan kit and wired it that way, so I can't put my old pump back on, should I be able to baby it to the diesel shop to get a fass or walboro, I sick of this carter LP garbadge, I don't want to ruin the IP.

I guess there are two versions of that pump, you might have gotten the lower PSI one.

the carter pump crazz is on it's way out, I had one go south in 3 months. I was NOT impressed. give www.Wideopendiesel.com a look at there walbro 392 kit the only one they offer. thats the bigger pump that others want more for. The walbro pump will take care of your fuel needs, I am happy with it. it's capable of makeing up to 130 psi. and it's only set at 16 psi you do the math.
Do like infidel says check that gauge make sure you are getting a correct reading first. Then check that pump and make sure you got the HP and not just a plain 4600 because it is set at 7 psi. Where did you mount your pump? Do you have good power to it check the voltage while it is running?
I have the 4601hp on my 99 dually mounted on the frame rail as close as possible to the tank and i get a steady 12-13 psi . It has been working good for the last 1.5 years and it also pulls threw a pre filter.

Check your fuel filter, I spent alot of money on a fuel system BEFORE I changed my fuel filter, that solved my FP issues. It will get stopped up and your Fp will drop fast under throttle. When I changed mine i went from 6@idle and 0@WOT the 12@idle and would go below 9psi.

In the meantime keep that comp turned off and drive it easy with 6psi you should be ok in this cool weather. You can also add some 2cycle lube to your fuel for an extra safety measure with this ultra low sulfer fuel we are now getting. If your pump is not the correct one or checks out bad call summit tell them the situation (my vehicle is down and i can't get to work) see what they can do to get you one quick instead of waiting for yours to be returned. Where are you located there in the great white north?
On my way to work today I dropped my truck of at a diesel shop to get a walboro, but had none in stock, so I got them to throw a holley blue on because i needed my truck, after it was installed it would only idle at 10 psi and i can pull it down to 6 psi. my filter is good but the guy at the shop mentioned it could be my isolater/sensor for the gauge, i think i'm going to pick another one up because it can't be 2 bad pumps, I hope.

You may be drawing air into the fuel system at the tank through the fuel probe. Have you installed a Vulcan Draw Straw kit?

well tonight i finished my big line kit. My stock LP went south on me so i just deleted it, I'm jus running the Holley Blue on the frame. Now my FP went from 15 idle to 8-10. When i had the stock LP and Holley i would see 23 idle.
So i took it for a drive and with the Comp on 5x5 i couldn't draw it below 6. It must be the big line kit with fewer restrictions lowering FP and increasing flow.

The “blue” pump, P/N12-802-1, is rated at 110
GPH and it is designed for street/strip applications. Pressure is pre-set at 14 PSI
and a regulator is included as part of the package. Neither pump is compatible
with methanol or alcohol fuels nor should they be used with fuel injection systems.
The “black” pump, P/N 12-815-1, is rated at 140 GPH and is designed
to work with either gas or alcohol fuels. This one is similar to the “blue” pump
but it kicks out more fuel.
this is from the Hollley web site. Looks like mine is right where it belongs.
I don't really like the FP i have but it is still in the safe zone.
