On a normally aspirated engine, every 10*F drop in intake air temperature is nominally worth a 1% HP gain.

 

How would that contribute to denser intake air?

 

If i can manage to get to bed before 3 am , and then get back up before the machine shop closes at 10 , i would be in business

It dropped my EGT's a little , not not as much as I had expected.

Yes , I got TWO new batteries , I went to go to school one day , the truck rolled over twice , and everything died... the warning lights on the dash did not even come on , both batteries were shorted inside, 0 volts...

 

AC Delco batteries...ewwwwww. Nah jk, they are good batteries. I had the same thoughts about running AC to cool the intake air ambient temp, I hear the new PowerJokes have it, but my question is, since you don't get free energy, does the cooler air make more hp than is required to turn the compressor? Personally, I am thinking of putting dry ice on my intercooler.

 

Why don't you put that dry ice in your intake area?? I'm sure it would lower your egt's a ton!!!

 

Dry ice in the intake would only have so much surface area. By using the intercooler you will get more surface area and better heat transfer. Although, as the dry ice evaporates it turns into CO2, may increase the available amount of oxygen in the combustion process if placed around the air filter. Kind of like nitrous, but I don't know if it will work similar.

 

I would just put beer in it. Hopefully it would keep the beer cold for those long dusty roads.

 

that would be a negative captain..... large ammounts of CO2 will extinguish a fire.... hence CO2 Fire extinguishers.... it accually dispirses (sp) the oxygen in the air.... seems like it wouldn't but it does.... like Argon on a welder it shields and keeps oxygen from contaminating the weld (fire) and CO2 and argon/CO2 mix are used in welders too.....

 

Yeah I totally forgot about the fire extinguishers. I guess the Nitrogen in N2O has a weaker bond than CO2 an more readily releases the oxygen. So back to my original thought, pack the IC with dry ice. Dry ice is at -109* F, so I might be able to get 80* F ambient air down to 30* F.
