got a turbooooooo question

K...here's what i got..i was going to buy a boost elbow for my truck and i remembered reading something about a "hardlined wastegate" or something like that...looking at my sig.(automatic trans) ...is my truck hardlined??their appears to be a braided steel line coming from it if that's any help...if so, do i use a turnbuckle? and what do i do exactly to install if i need this...i need more boost, have fueling box and im guessing more boost would help w/ egt's and also make me smile a tad more at the same time ;D

2001 is when the HY35 with the hardline wastegate tube was introduced. The braided line is the oil line.

If you search the forum for turnbuckle you should find a pic I think there is one on the edge site as well.

As for the SS line thats your oil feed line. Leave that baby alone!

Re:got a turbooooooo question

Cuda,

I have a 99' which is basically the same setup as yours. The answer about a the hard line is no, you don't have one. The braided line that you see is your oil supply line. If you look closer on the compressor side of the turbo you will see a little brass elbow that is connected to a piece of black hose the goes to the wastegate actuator. This elbow is what gets replaced on our model years. I have had an Edge EZ and currently have a comp and they both came with the new elbow and would have figured that yours would have to but I guess not. Hope this helps.

Re:got a turbooooooo question

You'll be good to go with the boost elbow. The hardlined wastegates are only on the HY-35/9s that came on '01 and '02 autos. The stainless braided line coming out the top is your oil feed line... don't mess with that. The boost elbow is a brass 90 degree elbow that replaces the elbow in your turbo. It's located right off the compressor housing and will have a rubber hose running to the wastegate actuator.

Your box must have a boost fooler or going above 20 psi will throw a code and a check engine light.
