Got my gauges, now some ???

I noticed that first off my boost is not doing what I would of expected. It sits at 0 until I get on it, runs about 4 or 5 when cruising but I can't get it above about 18 or 19 at all. Does it sound like a leak? and if so, how would I test it?
Next ? is about my EGT's , should I be ab lto get them up around 1100 at an unloaded wot run?? they sure do come up fast!!

Sorry about the newby questions,

Chris

well if the turbo isnt elbowed, or turnbuckled, then yes your boost sounds perfect. As for the egt's 1100 on an empty wot run with your VA box, that sounds about right. Once you get a boost fooler and elbow or turnbuckle on their, then the boost will come up and egt's will go down. Keep in mind, that these trucks can take 1450 for short bursts!!

I was told the VA bok was a boost fooler, is this not right?? Also, please explain elbow and turnbuckle?? I know it has to do with the waste gate but I don't know which I would need.

Thanks

well if you have a manual, then you put in the boost elbow in the turbo casing at the line that goes into the wastegate. This elbow is a 90* brass fitting that has a pin hole in it, so that way the boost is slower too reach the wastegate. If you have an auto, then you need too turnbuckle the waste gate shut. The turnbuckle is about 4 bucks from a local hardware sotr. The one i had too use was a 5/16".

If the VA box is a boost fooler then you wont set an overboost code. If it isnt then when you step on it, you will get an overboost code which you will have too reset, by disconnecting the batteries.

Chris,

Your right on the money for a stock setup.

Under full throttle WOT I can get 1150*F and boost is about 19.5 PSI (Max Pressure of Wastegate).

Cruising the EGT is about 600-800*F and boost is about 5-10 PSI. (rolling hills)

In town (35 MPH) EGT is about 400-500*F and boost is about 0-2 PSI

YOUR GOOD!
