Good Steering Fix??

Does anyone know of a good "kit" to correct steering issues on a 2500?? The truck seems to have a clunk in the steering when accelerating and again when decelerating. Also, on the highway it seems to wander around a bit. You can turn the wheel about 4 inches each direction until it seems to catch and correct. I saw the PSC stabilizer and DSS mentioned, but ide like to get a solid "this is what finally fixed mine" answer before i buy anything!! Haha Seems like im asking for quite a bit!! Thanks!!

hi
for the wandering get a ssi bracket to upgrade to 03 up track bar this will cure the wander ,
next adjust the stearing box < input shaft bearing first > then do sector shaft adj , this will remove the play .
mine drives like a sports car now !

I second the vote for the 3rd gen track bar upgrade, DSS and last week I installed the Delrin bushing sold by rocksolidramtrucksteering.com. I'm not exactly sure why the bushing works as well as it does because it seems like the factory set up on the steering column would be fine but I was surprised at the improvement. If don't want to spend the money on a 3rd gen upgrade for the track bar you could use a luke's link to tighten up the stock bar. Other than a luke's link I wouldn't waste any more money on the 2nd gen track bar, the design on the frame end just sucks. Eric

Check all your suspension/steering components first! you could have bad tierods/pitman arm tie rod etc, and thowing the wrong parts on it wont fix it, now that being said, almost without fail your stock track bar is likely shot.

I would suggest replacing the crappy designed doomed to fail stock bar with something else... I have the SSI bracket and Adjustable 3rd gen Bar, so far no issues with it, I also have the DSS (steering box brace) and mine drives like it should have from the factory.

My advice is address the trackbar (if yours is indeed shot) replace it (3rd gen style,,hint hint) if necessary then do the steering box adjustments, as mentioned above, then to make it all last add the Steering box brace, the brace supports the lower bearing in the steering box and keeps you from wrecking Boxes and stiffens the frame, all the force of trying to move the wheels via the steering box is transmitted from here and it is very helpful in taking the stress off the steering box

ditto the advice, but you need to get someone to rock the steering wheel back and forth (truck key on but NOT running, parking brake on, chock the tires) whie you are under the front end of the truck. you'll likely see the lower bushing on the track bar moving as well as the lower shock mounts, maybe even the sway bar end links. get dirty and learn the truck at the same time!
